  • Indian Body builder Ravinder Malik won Mr South Asia Title.
  • There are around 91 bodybuilders participated in the championship.
  • The competition is organised by South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports The Federation under the auspices of Nepal Bodybuilding and Fitness Association.
  • He won the overall champion of the 12th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Kathmandu.

  • Manny Pacquiao(40) won the WBA (World Boxing Association) welterweight championship 2019.
  • He defeated  Keith Thurman of US at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, United States.
  • Two judges scored it 115-112 in favor of Pacquiao. The one judge scored it 114-113 to Thurman.
  • The eight-division world champion Pacquiao improved to 62-7-2 score with 39 knockouts.
  • He is currently serving as a senator of the Philippines won 12 major world titles as well as being the first boxer to win the lineal championship in five different weight classes.
  • He won the “Best Fighter ESPY Award. He currently ranks No. 4 in Boxer`s ranking of the greatest pound for pound boxers of all time.

India tallied 9 medals at the 23rd Presidents Cup in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia:

Mary Kom won gold in the 51Kg category at the 23rd President’s Cup in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. She defeated Australian April Franks and secured 5-0. 

In the event India won 9 medals. It comprised of seven gold and two silver medals. 2018 World Championships bronze winner Simranjit Kaur also won a gold in the event.

Other winners:

Assam’s Jamuna Boro defeated eteran boxer Giulia Lamagna and secured 5-0 to win the gold in the 54Kg category.

Dinesh Dagar won a silver medal in the event. He lost to Indonesia’s Samada Saputra and secured 0-5.

Monika won gold in the 48Kg category by defeating Indonesia`s Endang and secured (5-0)

Max Verstappen won crazy German Grand Prix:

  • Max Verstappen clinched German Grand Prix with Mercedes` Formula One leader Lewis Hamilton.
  • The extraordinary race of constantly changing fortunes, multiple pitstops and endless drama, Ferrari`s Sebastian Vettel started from last place.
  • The race was shortened by three laps after the safety car had led the field away before a standing start.
  • Valtteri Bottas crashed out with six laps remaining to leave the gap between the two unchanged at 39 points after 11 of 21 races.
  • Mercedes, empty-handed in their 200th start and in what looks likely to be the last German Grand Prix 
  • Verstappen made five on his way to his second win of the season and also spun 360 degrees in the middle of the race. 
  • There were four safety car periods.
  • Hamilton started on pole position with Dutch youngster Verstappen alongside on the front row.
  • The Briton, who caught Mercedes by surprise when he pitted, also had to serve a five-second time penalty.
  • Thai driver Alexander Albon gave Toro Rosso more points in sixth place with Kimi Raikkonen seventh and Alfa Romeo teammate Antonio Giovinazzi eighth.

Dalilah Muhammad set new world record in the 400m hurdles womens athletics at the U.S. Championships athletics:

  • American Athlete Dalilah Muhammad set new world record in the 400m hurdles women’s athletics at the U.S. Championships athletics on 28 July. She colcked 52.20sec. The previous world record was set at 52.34 sec by Russia’s Yuliya Pechonkina in 2003.

  • Emma Coburn won first and clocked 9min 25.63 seconds. 
  • Women`s 200m:
  • Noah Lyles came first in the 200m and clocked 19.78sec. Christian Coleman came second and clocked 20.02. Ameer Webb was third in 20.45 in 100 m.
  • Men’s 110m hurdles:     
  • Daniel Roberts finished first with a time of 13.23 seconds. Holloway finished second in 13.36. Devon Allen was third in 13.38. 
  • Men’s 1,500m hurdles:
  • Craig Engels finished first with a time of 3min 44.93 seconds. Centrowitz was second in 3:44.97. Josh Thompson was third in 3:45.25.

ICC officially launches WTC:

International Cricket Council (ICC) officially launched the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC). It will begin from August 1, 2019, where Australia and England will face each other in the Ashes. It will bring relevance and context to bilateral Test cricket over the next 2 years (2021).

Key Points:

  • i. WTC will comprise of the top 9 Test teams of the world- Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
  • ii. 71 Test matches will be played across 27 series over two years. The top two teams will contest in the ICC World Test Championship final from June 14-20, 2021 in the United Kingdom (UK).
  • iii. Points will be given for grabs during each match. Each team will play three home and three away series.
  • iv. Each series will count for 120 points, distributed over the number of matches in a series.
  • v. The matches will be played in the same format as bilateral series.
  • vi. The number of matches in each series can vary between a minimum of two matches to a maximum of five matches.

Djokovic won Federer to win fifth Wimbledon title:

  • Novak Djokovic won his fifth Wimbledon title. 
  • He defeated Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12 in a match that lasted for more than four hours.
  • The match to be decided in the fifth set.
  • Federer and Djokovic won two sets each in the longest ever final.
  • This is  Djokovic`s 16th Grand Slam and 5th Wimbledon title. 
  • He is level with Bjorn Borg as a five-time Wimbledon winner.

Indian athlete Mohammad Anas won gold in men’s 400m  and Hima Das won gold in women’s 200m event at Kladno Memorial Athletics Meet at Kladno in Czech Republic. Indians bagged 6 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.

Mohammad Anas:

Anas won  his own national record in men’s 400m race and clocked with an effort of 45.21 seconds. Earlier, he set the national record as he clocked 45.24 seconds which he recorded in 2018.  Anas finished nearly one second ahead of silver winner Omelko Rafal (46.19) of Poland.

Hima Das:

Hima Das timed 23.43 seconds to win gold while she has personal best of 23.10 sec in 200m. She won another gold in Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland and one more at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland. This is Hima Das 3rd international triumph in within 2 weeks. 

The other gold winner in the event are:

Archana in 100m (11.74 sec) 

Lili Das in 1500m (4:19.05) 

Harsh Kumar in 400m (46.76 sec) 

Sahil Silwal in javelin throw (78.50m)

Women’s 4×100 relay(45.81 sec).

IAF to host the 24 Hours Asia and Oceania Championships in 2020-21 in Bengaluru:

The Indian Athletics Federation (IAF) has decided to host a 24 Hours Asia and Oceania Championships in 2020 and a 100 km Asia and Oceania Championships in 2021 in Bangalore. It aims to boost the ultra race in India.

Sponsors:

A team led by Nadeem Khan, the head of the IAU, inspected the facilities in Bengaluru as it will be hosting the two continental events. The 2 events will be sponsored by NEB Sports, which are coming to India for the first time. 

Ultra Race:

The Ultra race is governed by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU). Any race longer than the traditional 42,195 km marathon is Ultra race. Ultra races are played at a set distance, such as 50 km, 100 km and longer events, or a set time, such as 6 hours, 24 hours and multi-day events. 

India`s achievement in Ultra race:

India won an individual and team medal in the 2018 24-hours Asian and Oceania Championships in Taipei. Ullas Narayana covered a distance of 250 km in 24 hours and won bronze and an Indian team composed of Ullas, Sunil Sharma and Lallu participated in the event.

Right-arm medium pacer, Jade Dernbach(33) of England announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on the day England won 2019 World Cup held at Lord’s (also known as Lord’s Cricket Ground), London.

Key points:

i. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and moved to England as a 14-year-old.

ii. He last played an international match in 2014. He made his first-class debut in 2003 and won the NBC Denis Compton Award in 2004 and 2009.

iii. He made his international debut in 2011 & represented England 58 times.

iv. He made his debut for Surrey against India ‘A’ at the age of 17. In 2006, he became the club’s leading wicket-taker and came up with a superlative performance at the Natwest Pro40.

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju launches AIFF Golden Baby Leagues handbook:

  • Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju launched the All India Football Federation`s Golden Baby Leagues handbook 2019-20 
  • The book is based on the sidelines of the Intercontinental Cup 
  • The function took place in Ahmedabad . 
  • The launch marked the renaming of the `AIFF Baby Leagues` to `AIFF Golden Baby Leagues`, with emphasis being laid for ages under 6 to under 12 both for girls and boys. 
  • The handbook is a guide to organise the Golden BabyLeague. 
  • The Leagues aim to provide access to football in localities irrespective of gender, religion, economic background.

Virat Kohli retains top position among batsmen in latest ICC rankings:

  • Team India skipper Virat Kohli retained the top position among batsmen in the latest ICC rankings. 
  • Rohit Sharma bridged the gap at No. 2 following record five World Cup tons. Pakistan`s Babar Azam got third place. 
  • Australia opener David Warner re-entered the top 10 at number six.
  • India in the ODI rankings with Jasprit Bumrah extending his lead at the top from 21 points to 56 points 
  • After grabbing 17 wickets in the nine league matches at the World Cup. 
  • New Zealand`s Trent Boult remained in the second spot.  
  • Bangladesh`s Shakib Al Hasan retained the top spot among all-rounders. 
  • In the ICC ODI Team Rankings, England remain in first position at 123 points New Zealand and Australia are both on 112 with New Zealand.

Dravid appointed as the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru:

Former India captain Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The appointment was announced and approved by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on 8 July. He is currently the vice-president of India Cements.

Roles and Duties:

Dravid will work closely with the National Head Coaches and Cricket Coaches for India Developmental teams which includes India A, India Under 19, India Under 23 teams, in the identification of key training and development objectives. 

He will monitor progress against these objectives for the developmental teams. The role expects him to provide necessary inputs on the same to the Senior Men’s and Women’s Head Coaches.

Rahul Dravid:

Dravid  is a former Indian cricketer and captain of the india national team. He is colloquially known as Dependable or Mr. Dependable, and often referred to as The Great Wall. He is the current Overseas Batting Consultant for the Indian team, and also the Head Coach for the India under 19 and india A teams. 

He is known for his sound batting technique. In his career, Dravid has scored nearly 25,000 runs in international cricket and is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket.

Dravid was the second highest scorer overall and top scorer for India across formats, scoring 8,914 runs from 174 matches at an average of 54.02, including 19 hundreds.

National Cricket Academy (NCA):

The National Cricket Academy (NCA) was established in 2000 and is located in Chinnaswamy Stadium Bengaluru, Karnataka in India. The NCA was founded under the idea of cricket administrator and former BCCI President Raj Singh Dungarpur.

 

NCA provides training to the young cricketers who are identified as having the potential to represent the Indian cricket team.

Arinjeeta Dey won a silver medal for India in World Youth Cup 2019:

  • Karate girl, Arinjeeta Dey (Barasat, West Bengal) won a silver medal under the 12 category in the World Youth Cup 2019.
  • The competition was held in Umag, Croatia(from July 1 to July 5, 2019).
  • It was organized by World Karate Federation affiliated to the International Olympic Association. 
  • A total of 35 countries participated in this competition. 
  • He won 3 times in national championship junior level category (2017 KAI SUB Junior National gold medalist, 2018 KAI SUB Junior National gold medalist,2019 KAI SUB Junior National Gold and Silver Medalist). 
  • She belongs from Barasat in West Bengal.

IOC removed Kuwait suspension and allows participating in 2020 Olympics:

  • The International Olympic Committee (IOC) removed the ban on the Kuwait Olympic Committee (KOC) and permitted to compete in the 2020 Olympics. 
  • Kuwait suspended in October 2015 following under government interference with the basic principles that govern the Olympic Movement.
  • FIFA suspended the Kuwait Football Association for the same reason in October 2015.
  • KOC successfully implemented a roadmap agreed between all parties 
  • They participated in the 2020 Olympics. 
  • Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Ahmad A1 Sabah elected President of the KOC.

 Brazil beats Peru in the final to lift the Copa America 2019 title:

  • The 46th Edition of Copa America held between 14 June to 7 July 2019 at 6 venues in the host country.
  • Brazil defeated Peru with 3-1 scores to clinch the Copa America Title 2019 in the finals 
  • It is held at Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 
  • It was the 9th title for Brazil 
  • It was first since 2007.
  • Everton, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison scored the goals for Brazil and Paolo Guerrero scored the single goal for Peru.

 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship: India win 13 medals:

  • India won 13 medals on the opening day of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship.
  • The event is held in Apia, Samoa.
  • The medals comprised 8 Gold, 3 silver and 2 Bronze.
  • Mirabai Chanu led the Indian medal rush in the senior women`s 49 kg event 
  • She won the gold medal in the Olympic qualifying event. 
  • She lifted a total of 191 kg.
  • Jhilli Dalabehera won the first place on the podium.
  • She made a lift of 154 kg in the senior women`s 45 kg 
  • In the senior women`s 55 kg, Soroikhaibam Bindyarani Devi won the gold 
  • In the senior men`s 55kg category, Rishikanta Singh won the gold of 235 kg.

Hima Das won the women`s 200m gold in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland:

Star Indian sprinter Hima Das won the women`s 200m gold in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland. She was clocked 23.65s on her way to the 200m gold. 

This was Hima`s first competitive 200m race of the year 2019.

Other winners:

The national record holder shot putter Tajinder Pal Singh Toor bagged a bronze with a best effort of 19.62m.

VK Vismaya finished third with a personal best time of 23.75s in the race at Poznan Asian champion.

Muhammed Anas, the 400m national record holder, secured third in the men`s 200m race with a timing of 20.75 seconds.

K S Jeevan won the men`s 400m bronze in 47.25s.

Hima Das:

Hima Das, nicknamed the Dhing Express, is an Indian sprint runner from the state of Assam. 

She holds the current Indian national record in 400 metres with a timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia

 

She has been conferred with Arjuna award by the President of India on 25 September 2018. She was appointed as India`s first ever youth ambassador of UNICEF.
