1) Neeraj Chopra sets world record, becomes 1st Indian to win gold in athletics.
- India’s Neeraj Chopra won the javelin gold at the IAAF World under-20 athletics championship in Poland, setting a world record of 86.48m.
- The 18-year-old’s win at Bydgoszcz is the country’s first-ever gold in a world athletics championship.
- The young man from Panipat in Haryana bettered the previous U-20 record of 84.69m held by Latvian Zigismunds Sirmais by nearly two metres.
- Chopra had won the gold at the South Asian Games in Guwahati earlier this year with a personal best 82.23m, making him the world’s best junior thrower this season.
2) Usain Bolt wins 200m sprint ahead of Olympics.
- Bolt, 29, clocked 19.89 seconds in his first appearance since pulling out of the Jamaican trials.
- Usain Bolt accused sprint rival Justin Gatlin of "disrespect" after the six-time Olympic champion won the 200m at the Anniversary Games in London.
- Bolt won gold in both the 100m and 200m at the London and Beijing Olympics, and will defend both titles in Rio next month.
3) Vishwas K.S., A Swimmer With No Hands, Wins Medals.
- Vishwas K.S. 26-year-old from Bengaluru, who lost both hands in a tragic accident when he was 10, has done India proud by winning three medals at the ‘2016 Speedo Can Am Para-swimming Championships’ held in Canada.
- It took around three years of intense training for Vishwas to gain the skills needed to become a professional swimmer.
- Without the use of his hands, he mastered butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle swimming.
4) Manavaditya Rathore and Anant Naruka wins bronze at Junior World Cup.
- Indian shooter Manavaditya Rathore won the trap bronze medal in the `Champion of Champions` match at the Junior World Cup in Porpetto, Italy.
- While Manavaditya, son of Athens Olympics silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, won the bronze in trap event, Anant Naruka bagged a bronze in `Champion of Champions` battle in skeet.
- `Champion of Champions` battle is where the medallists of the three Junior World Cups of the year compete against each other.
5) Lewis Hamilton wins Hungary Grand Prix.
- Lewis Hamilton won the Hungarian Grand Prix to move ahead of his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in the championship for the first time this season.
- Hamilton had come to the Hungaroring trailing Rosberg by one point in the championship.
- In recent times Hamilton’s resurgence recalls Kimi Raikkonen’s triumph in 2007 from the equivalent of 45 points down and Sebastian Vettel’s title in 2012 from 44 points behind.
###6) Ashwin reclaims top spot among Test bowlers.
- India`s R. Ashwin has reclaimed the top spot on the ICC`s rankings for Test bowlers, following his seven-wicket haul against West Indies.
- Ashwin, who had slipped down the order after Pakistan legspinner Yasir Shah claimed ten wickets against England at Lord`s.
- As a batsman, he has gained three places to move to 45th following his innings off 113 against West Indies.
- Virat Kohli, India`s Test captain, moved up two places to sit at 12th place in the batsmen rankings after his maiden double-century.
7) Indian men`s junior cyclists No. 1 in team sprint.
- The men`s junior team finds itself ranked No. 1 in the Team Sprint category as per the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) ratings release.
- According to the latest rankings released this week and which are updated every three months the Indian men`s junior team has moved from a previous rank of 11th place to top of the table.
8) Shot putter Inderjeet singh too fails dope test.
- Close on the heels of the Narsingh Yadav scandal, more dope misery came India`s way when Rio-bound shot putter Inderjeet Singh became the second athlete to test positive for a banned substance.
- India was sending its largest-ever athletics contingent to the Olympics and this latest development has created huge doubts in the minds of the international dope-watchers.
- Inderjeet was the first Indian athlete to qualify for Rio and the hope of breaching the 21m barrier on his Olympic debut.
9) Odisha announces Rs. 60 lakh special incentive for Olympic qualifiers.
- Six sportspersons from Odisha who are to represent India in Rio Olympics 2016 will get Rs. 10 lakh each as a special incentive.
- Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) would provide Rs. 10 lakh to each player.
- Six women from Odisha have qualified for the Rio Olympics. Sprinters Srabani Nanda and Dutee Chand and four women hockey players Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Sunita Lakra have made it to the Olympics.
10) IOC Olympic channel to launch at Rio 2016 Games.
- The International Olympic Committee’s new television Channel will launch officially the last day of this year’s Rio de Janeiro Games, as the organisation looks to attract a new generation of fans.
- The digital platform will look to maintain interest in the Games year-round, especially in the two-year period between summer and winter Olympics with original programming, live events, news and highlights.
- The Olympic Channel will be available worldwide via a mobile app.

- Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger announced his retirement from international duty with immediate effect.
- The 31-year-old Manchester United midfielder, who won his 120th and final cap in Germany`s 2-0 defeat to France in the semifinals of Euro 2016.
- Schweinsteiger still has two years left to run on his United contract.
12) IWF ban Russian weightlifting team from Rio Olympics.
- Russia’s eight-strong Olympic Games weightlifting team was banned from the Rio Games in the latest doping related blow to the sporting powerhouse.
- There are now 117 Russian competitors banned from the Games including 67 track and field athletes from the 387 initially nominated by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
- In the aftermath of the bombshell McLaren report, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) resisted huge pressure to impose a blanket ban on Russia from the Olympics.
13) Skydiver Luke Aikins Sets Record For Highest Jump Without Parachute.
- A daredevil skydiver became the first to jump from a height of 25,000 feet (7,620 meters) without a parachute, landing in a net in southern California.
- Luke Aikins, 42, who has 18,000 jumps under his belt, completed the jump in Simi Valley just west of Los Angeles, landing in a net measuring 100 feet by 100 feet (30 meters by 30 meters) in a feat broadcast on Fox.
- Aikins` leap represents the culmination of a 26-year career that will set a personal and world record for the highest jump without a parachute or wing suit.
14) Hamilton wins German GP to extend championship lead.
- Lewis Hamilton cruised to an unchallenged victory in German Formula One Grand Prix to extend his lead over Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg at the top of the world championship standings.
- Hamilton now leads Rosberg by 19 points in the standings with nine rounds of a record 21-race season remaining.
- Rosberg, who had looked unbeatable after topping every practice session, was only fourth after falling back at the start and collecting a five-second time-penalty for forcing Verstappen off the track.

1) Harika Dronavalli wins Fide Women’s Grand Prix trophy.
- In the final round of the FIDE Women`s Grand Prix in Chengdu, China, Koneru Humpy defeated Antoaneta Stefanova to catch up with her compatriot Harika Dronavalli on the shared first place with 7/11 points each.
- Harika was awarded with the winner`s trophy due to better tie-break - a win in the head-to-head match.
- The organizer of the tournament is the Chinese Chess Association, in partnership with the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
2) Vijender becomes WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight champion.
- Vijender Singh became the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight champion with a convincing win over Australian Kerry Hope even as pro boxing made a rousing start in the country.
- Vijender remained unbeaten, this time by unanimous decision, even though his reputation as the `Knockout King` took a backseat.
- The win also saw Vijender climb to 15th in the world in his category even as the former world number four Hope looked rusty and unable to counter Vijender’s well-timed punches.
###3) Dipika Pallikal, Saurav Ghosal clinch national squash titles.
- Dipika Pallikal Karthik dethroned defending champion Joshna Chinappa to regain the women`s title in the 73rd Senior National Squash Championship.
- The men`s crown was captured by title holder and top seed Saurav Ghosal, who created history by winning it for the 11th time, defeating fourth seed Harinderpal Singh Sandhu in five hard-fought games at the Otters Club.
- World no. 19 Dipika, who was playing in the nationals after a five-year gap when she won in 2011, made it to the tops once again by beating arch-rival Joshna.
4) Pakistan defeat England at Lord’s after 20 years.
- Pakistan register a 75-run win over England, inside four days, to go 1-0 up in the four-match Test series at Lord’s.
- The win is Pakistan’s fourth-ever at Lord’s, last coming way back in 1996. Before that, they won in 1982 and 1992.
- Mohammad Amir, back from a five-year ban for spot-fixing, sealed victory when he clean bowled Jake Ball.
5) Abdul Wahid Tanveer wins 2Wheeler MRF Rally of Coimbatore.
- Abdul Wahid Tanveer of Team TVS clinched the 2016 MRF MoGrip FMSCI National Rally Championship for two-wheelers.
- Bengaluru-based Wahid, riding a TVS RTR 450, clocked 1 hour 02 min, 13 seconds to complete the challenging Special Stages set around the wind farms near the Kethanur (Palladam) area.
- The total distance of the route was approximately 145 km and total distance of the special stages was about 70 km.
- The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) was founded in 1971. It is a long-standing member of the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and the Federation International de l’Automobile (FIA), the world bodies for 2/3 and 4 wheeler motor sport respectively.
6) Ban all Russians from Rio Olympics: WADA.
- The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) called for Russia to be completely banned from the Rio Olympics and other international sport.
- The move comes after the release of a WADA - requested report by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren that says Russia used a complex state-supported doping scheme at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
- Russia, which had strongly denied any state involvement, is already banned from international athletics by the world body, the IAAF, because of doping exposed last year.
7) Himachal wins champion trophy in All India Electricity Board Kabaddi tournament.
- Himachal Pradesh won the champion trophy in the 41st All India Electricity Board Kabaddi tournament held at Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu.
- Himachal Pradesh defeated Punjab 36-22.
- More than 15 teams from Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Delhi, and Haryana Electricity Boards competed in the four-day tournament.
8) China sends 416 athletes to Rio Olympics.
- China is sending 416 athletes in total to the Rio de Janeiro Games, including 35 former Olympic champions.
- China’s team includes 160 men and 256 women, who will compete in 210 events across 26 sports.
- China’s youngest competitor is 14-year-old swimmer Ai Yanhan. Beijing 2008 Olympics shooting champion Chen Ying, 39, is the oldest and will be appearing at her fourth Olympics.
- China won the second largest number of medals at the 2012 London Olympics after the United States, including 38 golds.

- Marlon Samuels was named the ODI Player of the Year and Cricketer of the Year at WICB`s annual awards.
- With 258 runs at an average of 36.85, he finished as the second-highest run-getter behind Australia captain Steven Smith in the tri-series in West Indies.
- Samuels had played a starring role in West Indies` World T20 title win in India.
- Stafanie Taylor scooped the Women`s T20 Player of the Year and ODI Player of the Year awards.
- Darren Bravo was named the Test Player of the Year while Dwayne Bravo took the Caribbean T20 Player of the Year award. Chris Gayle, meanwhile, bagged the T20 Player of the Year award.
10) Sony bags exclusive broadcast rights for International Champions Cup.
- Sony Pictures Networks India has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights to telecast the 2016 edition of the International Champions Cup in India.
- The matches this year will be held across North America, Europe, Australia, and China, and will see 17 of the top clubs from across the world participating in the highly anticipated season opening tournament.
- The International Champions Cup 2016 is the first tournament of the 2016-17 football season and will kick-off the 2016-17 club season across the world.
11) Virat Kohli becomes first Indian captain to hit double hundred outside India.
- Virat Kohli the record breaking machine, added more milestones to his name on the second day of the first Test against West Indies.
- The latest record for the Indian skipper sees him go past Mohammad Azharuddin with the highest score by an Indian captain away from home.
- With his double ton, Kohli also enters the elite list of visiting captains with highest scores in West Indies – a list that includes the likes Sir Leonard Hutton, Steve Waugh, Andrew Strauss and Ricky Ponting.
12) Kiwi freediver William Trubridge sets world record.
- Kiwi William Trubridge has come back to set a new free diving world record of 102m.
- Trubridge plunged into the darkness of the world`s deepest marine cavern, Dean`s Blue Hole in the Bahamas.
- The world record is Trubridge`s 18th and his third of the year having broken his own free immersion (rope assisted dive).
13) Spain announces Lopetegui as Del Bosque`s replacement.
- Spain`s football federation named Julen Lopetegui as the new coach of the national team, replacing Vicente del Bosque.
- Del Bosque stepped down after eight years in charge following Spain`s elimination in the round of 16 of the European Championship.
- A former goalkeeper who started a handful of games for Real Madrid and Barcelona, Lopetegui played for Spain in the 1994 World Cup.
- Lopetegui coached Spain`s youth squads from 2010-14. Del Bosque left after leading Spain`s most successful generation of players to titles at the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship.
14) Allardyce set for England job confirms FA chairman Dyke.
- Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has confirmed Sam Allardyce will be hired as England’s next manager at an FA board meeting at Wembley.
- Allardyce has been selected by a three-man panel who decided the Sunderland boss was the best bet on a short-list.
- Dyke is due to step down after three years as FA chairman.
15) Keni Harrison breaks 28-year-old world hurdles record at Anniversary Games.
- American Keni Harrison broke a 28-year-old world record in the 100m hurdles, clocking 12.20 seconds at the London Anniversary Games.
- Harrison, 23, was already the fastest woman in the world this year, but will not be at next month`s Olympics after finishing only sixth in the US trials.
- Harrison has run six of the seven fastest times this year, and two of the four fastest ever.

1) Dipa Karmakar named as `world class gymnast`.
- Dipa Karmakar was pleasantly surprised of a gold pin she was to receive from the international parent body for being a `World Class Gymnast` after her showing at the World Championships.
- Mumbai-based Gymnastics Federation of India received an airmail from the Federation de Internationale de Gymnastique secretary general Andre Gueisbuhler informing them of the `Gymnaste de classe mondiale` distinction bestowed on the Indian gymnast who finished the vaulting apparatus finals on 5th position.
- It is awarded to the top 30 qualifiers in multiple apparatus events or to event finalists at Worlds and is a once-in-a-career induction into gymnastics’ elite. It’s common for gymnasts from Russia, US, Japan and China.
2) Roger Federer Sets Record of Most Wins in Grand Slams.
- On Way to Wimbledon Semis Roger Federer, en route to defeating Marin Cilic in Wimbledon quarter-final, notched his 307th win in Grand Slams. He surpassed Martina Navratilova in the process.
- 307 - All-time new record for most Grand Slam match wins, passing previous best of 306 held by Martina Navratilova.
- 84 - Wimbledon match wins, equaling the record of Jimmy Connors.
- 11 - Number of Wimbledon semi-finals for Federer, equaling Connors.
- 10 - Number of comebacks from two sets down, matching the same mark as Boris Becker and Aaron Krickstein.
3) Andy Murray won men’s singles title of 2016 Wimbledon.
- Britain`s Andy Murray clinched a second Wimbledon title and third Grand Slam crown he defeated Milos Raonic of Canada.
- The world number two added the 2016 trophy to his 2013 triumph at the All England Club and his 2012 US Open title.
- Murray, 29, became the first British man to win multiple Wimbledon singles titles since Fred Perry in 1935.
4) Rohan Prem is Kerala’s Cricketer of the Year.
- Rohan Prem, who amassed more than 700 runs in Ranji Trophy last season, is Kerala’s Cricketer of the Year.
- The Kerala Cricket Association announced its awards for the year 2015-16 in various categories.

5) Serena Williams wins the Wimbledon women`s championship.
- Serena Williams took Angelique Kerber down in straight sets to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish for the 7th time and equals Steffi Graf`s record of 22 Major wins.
- Serena`s serving might make the difference between the two in the end. She takes the 11th game with a fierce ace that leaves Kerber a mere spectator.
- She has her work cut out as she faces a red-hot Angelique Kerber, whose attritional German style of play has the tendency to wear the opponent down to submission, as happened at the Australian Open earlier this year.
6) Sandeep win silver, Narsingh bag bronze in Spanish GP.
- Rio-bound Indian grapplers, Sandeep Tomar and Narsingh Yadav won the silver and bronze medals in 74 kg and 57 kg respectively at the Spanish Grand Prix Wrestling championship.
- Narsingh beat Canada wrestler Jasmit Phulka 7-0 in first round and then lost to Livan Lopez in second round but then got a repechage when the Cuban reached the finals.
- In the 74 kg category, Livan Lopez of Cuba and Zelimkhan Khadjiev of France won the gold and silver medal respectively.

- Lewis Hamilton held his nerve to grab pole position ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg for British Grand Prix.
- The German was penalised 10 seconds by the Silverstone stewards for a breach of the rules governing radio communication over a gearbox issue.
- Red Bull’s talented Dutch teenager Max Verstappen who had finished a fine third inherited the runner-up spot behind Hamilton.
8) Britain`s Reid wins Wimbledon wheelchair title.
- Britain`s Gordon Reidwon the inaugural Wimbledon men`s wheelchair singles title and hoped his victory would boost the profile of disability sport.
- The 24-year-old Scot defeated Sweden`s Stefan Olsson to add to the doubles title he had won with Alfie Hewitt.
- Reid was born able-bodied but at 13 he was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a condition which affects the spinal cord.
9) Portugal defeated France in Euro 2016 final.
- Portugal were crowned as Euro 2016 champions after they beat France in the final in Paris.
- It also proved to be the first time Portugal have beaten France since 1975 and first loss for Les Bleus at home in a major tournament at home.
- A victory for France over Portugal in European Championship final would give the country a welcome morale boost..
- In two days time will be the 18th anniversary of France winning their first and only World Cup title.
10) Jinson Johnson, Dharambir Singh, Renjith Maheshwari qualify for Rio 2016 Olympics.
- Triple jumper Renjith Maheshwari, sprinter Dharambir Singh, and Jinson Johnson are the latest addition to the list of athletes who have qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
- Maheshwari and Dharambir made national record in their respective events at Indian Grand Prix while Johnson made a cut for the men’s 800m event after clocking 1:45.98.
- Dharambir Singh made him the first Indian male athlete to qualify for the 200m event at the Olympics in 36 years.
11) Glasgow hosts the 2016 Homeless World Cup.
- A specially built city centre football arena has been treated to a tournament of rain, sun, goals and smiles as Glasgow hosts the 14th Homeless World Cup.
- More than 500 men and women from 52 countries around the world are competing in four-a-side matches.
- The Homeless World Cup was co-founded by Mel Young, who also co-founded the Big Issue and is the chairman of Sport scotland.
- The Scotland squad is selected from the Street Soccer Scotland national football programme which supports socially disadvantaged men and women.

- Jerome Taylor, the West Indies fast bowler, has retired from Test cricket.
- Taylor, who took 130 wickets in 46 Tests over 13 years, will continue to be available for selection in the ODI and T20I formats.
- Taylor made his international debut as an 18-year-old against Sri Lanka in 2003, having impressed in domestic cricket for Jamaica.
13) India men’s 4X400m relay team qualifies for Rio Olympics.
- Indian male 4X400m team has qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics but the female team is still in contention at the Indian Grand Prix being held at the Sree Kantaveera Stadium in Bengaluru.
- This puts the team in the second spot for fastest 4×400 relay timing in the world in 2016 behind USA who had clocked 3:00:38.
- The Rio Olympic Games in individual events and the women’s 4x400m relay team is ranked world No. 13 and fulfills the qualification criteria.
14) Tim Duncan announces retirement from NBA.

- Forbes has released its list of most valuable teams in the first and for the first time, a non-football team heads the list.
- American football team Dallas Cowboys have attained the first spot while Real Madrid follows them at second.
- The Dallas Cowboys are at the helm of the listings with $4 billion (£3.03 billion). This is the first time that an American football team has headed the magazine’s list since its inception in 2011.
- Real Madrid have been dethroned from their top spot but continues to remain at the top in football teams.
18) Indian junior hockey team open with 3-1 win versus Dinamo Stroitel in EurAsia Cup.
- India’s junior men’s hockey team started its EurAsia Cup campaign with an emphatic 3-1 victory against Dinamo Stroitel.
- Simranjeet Singh, Vikramjit, and Varun Kumar starred in India`s opening game win against the Dinamo Stroitel.
- Dinamo’s goalkeeper Dryanitsyn Artem kept the effort of the Indian team out of goals. Dinamo had their own PC a few minutes later but failed to score from it. The two teams went into half time goalless.
19) India jumps 11 places to 152nd in football rankings.
- Riding on their back-to-back wins over Laos last month, India made a big leap of 11 places to occupy 152nd spot in the latest world football rankings issued by FIFA.
- India beat Laos in the home and away play-off matches to make it to the 2019 Asian Cup qualifying tournament.
- India is the fourth best positive mover among the Asian countries this month after Tajikistan (up 19 places to 145th), Yemen (up 16 places to 160th) and Turkmenistan (up 14 places to 120th).
- Iran (39th) remains Asia’s number one ranked team, followed by Korea Republic (48th), Uzbekistan (56th), Japan (57th) and Australia (59th).
20) Misbah becomes oldest Test centurion in 82 years.
- Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq became the oldest player to score a Test century for 82 years when he reached three figures against England at Lord`s and celebrated by performing an impressive series of press-ups.
- The 42-year-old`s achievement was all the more impressive as this was also his first Test at the `home of cricket`.
- England`s Patsy Hendren made a century against Australia aged 45 at Manchester`s Old Trafford ground back in 1934 had an older player scored a Test hundred.

1) Gurpreet makes history, plays in Europa League.
- Gurpreet Singh Sandhu’s ground-breaking journey through uncharted territory reached the most important milestone as he became the first Indian footballer to play for the first team in the top-flight Europa League.
- The Indian national team goalkeeper started for Norwegian Tippeligaen club Stabaek FC in an Europa League qualifier against Welsh side Connah’s Quay Nomads FC in an away match in Rhyl, Wales.
- Sandhu, who signed for Stabaek in 2014, made headlines in May when he became the first Indian to start in the first team in a top-division league of Europe.

- Veteran sprinter Sameer Mon, representing Manipur, emerged as the fastest male athlete as he won the gold in 100m dash in 10.60secs on the third day of 56th National Inter-state Senior Championships which was held in Hyderabad.
- In spite of his late start, Mon, who had represented Kerala and Services in his career earlier, pulled a surprise by surging ahead of his fellow competitors in the last few metres to finish first at GMC Balayogi Stadium.
- 32-year-old Sameer, a member of the bronze winning Indian 4x100m relay quartet in Delhi Commonwealth Games six years ago, had earlier won the Inter-state titles in 2008 and 2011.
3) Cricket will be part of 2024 Olympics if Rome wins bid: Italy.
- Cricket will be part of the 2024 Olympics if Rome wins the bid to host the mega event, Italian cricket board chief Simone Gambino.
- Rome is bidding to host the 2024 Summer Games alongside Paris, Los Angeles and Budapest. The host city will have the opportunity to add five sports to the Olympics provided they fall under the regulations.
- If Rome does end up hosting the Games, the most likely location for cricket would be Bologna, where World Cricket League Division Four matches were held in 2010.
4) Saina moves up to fifth, Jwala-Ashwini slip four places.

- Javeline thrower Annu Rani, the Incheon Asian Games bronze medalist, has snapped her own national record with a massive 59.87m throw at the recently-concluded 56th National inter-state Senior Athletics Championships.
- The 23-year-old Annu Rai hails from meerut in Uttar Pradesh,bettered her previous meet mark with her first round 59.06m at G.M.C. Balayogi Stadium.
- Team-mate Suman Devi, who led with a season best 59.45m registered during her gold winning throw in South Asian Games at Guwahati earlier this year, could log only 55.88m to finish in the second place.
- Only the top-16 teams at the end of qualification period will be considered for participation in Rio Olympic Games.
8) India to host world`s first MMA `Super Fight League`.
- India will be hosting the world`s first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) `Super Fight League` from August.
- The franchise-based league will feature eight teams - DELHI, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Haryana, Bangalore, Punjab, Pune and Goa.
- The league will be a platform for Indian MMA players like Anup Kumar, CJ Singh, Amit Roy, Dhruv Chaudhary to showcase their skills. Each team will constitute nine Indian fighters and three international ones.
- Renowned British boxer Amir Khan, who is the chairman of the league wished to bring the `spice` of MMA to India.
9) Lewis Hamilton wins 2016 Austrian Grand Prix.
- Lewis Hamilton survived a collision with his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in a wild final lap as he claimed a dramatic victory in a pulsating Austrian Grand Prix. It was the 46th win of his career.

- It was double bonanza for India at the Canada Open as B Sai Praneeth and Rio-bound men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy clinched twin crowns after winning their respective title clash at the USD 55,000 Grand Prix badminton tournament.
- The 23-year-old Praneeth, seeded fourth, dished out a dominating game to defeat Korea’s Lee Hyun in the men’s singles final that lasted less than half an hour at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

- Bengaluru Para-swimmer Niranjan Mukundan has won eight medals, including three golds, at the recently-concluded IWAS (International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports) U-23 World Games in Prague, Czech Republic.
- Niranjan, who is born with a medical condition called Spina Bifida and clubbed feet and competes in the S-8 category, also had the honour of delivering the athletes` oath on behalf of 35 competing countries.
- In last year`s edition of the Games, he had created a record for highest number of individual medals, raking in 10 medals in all the events that he participated in.

- The Olympians Association of India (OAI) was launched with an aim to look after the welfare of former and current athletes from across the country. It is a representative body of Olympians in India.
- The first and only non-profit organisation by Olympians for Olympians in India, the OAI is directly affiliated to the World Olympians Association (WOA) under the International Olympic Committee.
