MANUU invites entries for Video Memoirs competition on Urdu Journalism

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is organizing video memoirs competition as part of Bicentenary Celebrations of Urdu Journalism. The memoirs, that provide opportunities to think, learn, capture and share their stories of historic moments, memories and experiences for future generations, will be based on both past and present state and the Facts related to Urdu Journalism.

The entries for the competition are open from May 15 to October 15, 2022. The participants can submit their entries through the Google Form link: https://forms.gle/cx32PQLWosGF3Tmu8.

According to Prof. Ehtesham Ahmed Khan, Dean, School of MCJ, a prize of Rs. 10,000/- will be awarded for the winning entry on the occasion of Valedictory Function of Bicentenary Celebrations scheduled to be held in the month of November 2022. The Journalists of Urdu Media as well as Hindi/English/vernacular Media can also participate by recording a Video Memoir of 5 to 10 minutes duration highlighting their memories, experiences, unheard or unseen facts and stories of our unsung heroes about Urdu Journalism and people associated with Urdu Journalism. Academicians/historians/researchers/student and general public can also participate. The individuals who is yet to be acknowledged and has pleasant anecdotes related to the glorious past of Urdu Journalism may also share their own Video Memoir as per the desired guidelines, he said.

The best Video Memoirs will be shared on social media and will be screened on the occasion of valedictory session of the Bicentenary Celebrations preferably in the month of November, 2022, whereas all Video Memoirs will be stored on a dedicated Website of Bicentenary Celebrations of Urdu Journalism, going to be launched in the month of October, 2022, so, that the future generations may get benefited.

MANUU UG Admissions - CUET Online Application Date Extended

The last date for submission of online applications for admission into undergraduate courses through Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for all the central universities including Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is extended upto May 22, 2022. Earlier the last date was May 06, 2022.5.6

According to a public notice issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the online application forms and fee payment can be submitted till May 22, 2022 by 5.00 pm and 11.50 pm respectively. The editing/correction facility is available from May 25 to 31, 2022.

Candidates, can visit CUET website https://cuet.samarth.ac.in and make the desired changes in the "Tests" opted at any time before the last date for submission of application forms and also pay the differential fee, if any, that may be applicable, arising on account of such changes. For any clarification, contact NTA at cuet@nta.ac.in or call at 011-4075 9000 or 011-6922 7700.

The candidates have to fill online application form available at CUET official website. The Prospectus for UG programmes is available on website manuu.edu.in.

MANUU is offering admissions into Undergraduate regular courses B.A., BA Hons (Journalism & Mass Communication), B.Com., B.Sc. (MPC, MPCS, ZBC), B.Voc. (Medical Imaging Technology & Medical Laboratory Technology), B.Tech Computer Science (Direct & Lateral entry into 2nd year of BTech CS for polytechnic diploma holders) through CUET for academic session 2022-23 going to be conducted by NTA in Computer Based Test (CBT) Mode.

NTA will be conducting all entrance examinations for MANUU in Urdu Medium only. The candidates will have to choose MANUU at the beginning of the online application. Besides the candidates who have passed 10+2 from recognized boards and recognized Madrasas students are also eligible to apply.

Meanwhile, MANUU is also offering online admissions for regular mode Ph.D., Post-Graduate, B.Ed. and Diploma/Certificate programmes. The last date for submission of application for entrance based courses is June 01, 2022 and for merit based courses August 30, 2022. MANUU receives rare Urdu translation of Sukh Sagar

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) has received a rare Urdu translation of holy book "Sukh Sagar" (Shrimad Bhagwat Puran) donated by Mr. Ramula Prahlad Reddy. He presented the book to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan recently.

Mr. Reddy, a resident of Rajapur District, Mahbubnagar, Telangana is a retired Headmaster and an admirer of Urdu language. He said that only Urdu University can preserve this rare almost 100 year old copy. Prof. Ainul Hasan appreciated Mr. Prahlad Reddys gesture.

Mr. Abrar Ahmed, Assistant Registrar coordinated the activity. Mr. Reddys family members were also present.

US English Language Fellow at MANUU

Regional English Language Office (RELO) at United States Embassy, New Delhi is deputing English language Fellow Ms. Vivienne Valles Thomas at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) from September this year for a period of 10 months.

This was conveyed by Ms. Ruth Goode, Regional English Officer, US Embassy to Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, MANUU during their meeting here today. US Consulate Hyderabad will also facilitate in conducting a 3 week long teachers training programme in collaboration with Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Medium Teachers (CPDUMT), MANUU.

Prof. Ainul Hasan while welcoming the offer of collaboration from American Consulate revealed his plan to establish a "Linguistic Empowerment Cell" at MANUU. He sought their support in this unique endeavour.

Dr. Mohammed Yousuf Khan, Incharge, Training and Placement Cell, MANUU and Mr. T. Senthil Kumar, Cultural Affairs Assistant of US Consulate, Hyderabad were also present.

Earlier, Ms. Robin V. Cathey, was deputed as English Language Fellow at MANUU by Regional English Language Office, New Delhi during 2018-19.

MANUUs HRDC is 3rd best in the Country

UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC) of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) has secured the third position among 66 centers of different universities across the country in the UGC assessment. Scoring a grade of 4.20, MANUU is rated among "high performing" centers only after University of Kerala and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with grading of 4.52 and 4.50 respectively.

According to Prof. Tahseen Bilgrami, Director I/c, Centre, the UGC has reviewed the performances of HRDCs of different universities for period of five year from the year 2015-2020 on quantitative and quality parameters. MANUU finds third place and was shortlisted based on self-assessment by each HRDCs and online presentations made before the committee. The UGC classified the centres into four groups - high performers, moderate performers, low performers and non-performers/inadequacy of data. The UGC-HRDC of MANUU has organized 64 programmes during last five years with 3103 participants from various disciplines and different administrative & academic levels were trained, she informed.

Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, expressed satisfaction over the achievement and congratulated the centre and described it as a recognition of MANUUs multidisciplinary approach towards higher education. A remarkable honour coinciding with the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the University, he pointed out.

Prof. S M Rahmatullah, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sk. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar also congratulated the MANUU Community specially the faculty & staff of the Centre.

UGC-HRDC of MANUU, earlier known as UGC-Academic Staff College was sanctioned by UGC in January 2007 and became operational in March 2007 to improve the status of the teachers and to provide opportunity for professional and career development to fulfill their role and responsibility within the system of higher education. Since its inception, the Centre has devoted itself to training and professional development of College and University teachers, Principals and Academic Administrators, non teaching staff and also research scholars.

MANUU offers UG admissions through CUET

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is offering admissions in Undergraduate regular courses through Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 for academic session 2022-23. MANUU Students Union Elections Today

Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Students Union (MSU) election for academic year 2021-22 will be held on April 01 from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon at Indoor Stadium, MANUU Campus and at off campuses. Classes will be suspended on the day of election.

Total of 3446 students will cast their votes in the elections at University Headquarters.

According to Prof. Mohammed Abdul Azeem, Chief Returning Officer, the contestants for the post of President include Azhar Shaheen, Mohd. Mursaleen & Mohd. Shibli Azad. There are three candidates each for the posts of Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary respectively. For treasurer post two candidates are in the field. Four Executive Committee Members will also be elected from among 22 members.

Counting of votes will begin after polling from 2.30 pm onwards followed by declaration of results. Prof. Syed Alim Ashraf is the Chairman of Grievance Redressal Cell for elections whereas Prof. Farida Siddiqui and Prof. Ehtesham Ahmed Khan are appointed as the observers. The Returning Officers include Dr. Ashwani, Dr. S. Omprakash, Dr. Samina Kausar, Dr. Khaja Moinuddin, Dr. Abu Shaheem Khan, Dr. S. Kamruddin, Dr. Khaleel Ahamed, Dr. Rafi Mohmad, Dr. K.M. Ziyauddin (Coordinator off campus), Mr Jameel Ahamed, Ms. Ismat Fathima, Dr. Jarrar Ahamad, Dr. Mohd. Akbar. The Principals & Incharge will be the returning officers for off campus colleges. MANUU conducts Translation Workshop

The Directorate of Translation and Publications (DTP), Maulana Azad National Urdu University organized a nine-day Translation Workshop in History from March 14 to 17 and March 21 to 25, 2022.

Prof. Syed Ainul Hassan, Vice Chancellor while expressing best wishes hoped that this method of translation would prove to be useful and effective and this experiment may also be applied for the future assignments.

During the workshop, nine experts have translated various units of MA (History) courses run by the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE).

The Director DTP, Prof. Mohd Khalid Mubashir-uz-Zafar said directorate would be organizing more workshops in future and translation of textbooks and knowledge books would continue. Prof. Razaullah Khan, Director, DDE expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing work.

Prof. Syed Mahmood Kazmi, Head, Dept. of Translation, Prof. Syed Aleem Ashraf, Head, Dept. of Arabic Department, Prof. Shamsul Huda, Dr. Abu Shaheem Khan, Dr. Fahimuddin Ahmed, Dr. Mehboob Basha also gave their valuable input.

The experts also gave their valuable advice to the translators participating in the workshop.

Fourth meeting of CSTT on Engineering Glossary begins at MANUU

The Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology(CSTT), Ministry of Education (Department of Higher Education), New Delhi has commenced fourth meeting on preparation of "Comprehensive Glossary of Engineering (English-Hindi-Telugu)" at the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CS&IT), School of Technology (SoT) of Maulana Azad National Urdu University yesterday. Six day long meeting will end on March 28, 2022.

Prof. S.M. Rahamatullah, Pro Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the meeting.

According to Dr. Bonthu Kotaiah, Assistant Professor, Department of CS&IT, MANUU & Coordinator cum Subject Expert first two meetings of the committee were held online and MANUU hosted the third meeting from March 9 to 15.

The Expert Advisory Committee of 26 Subject Experts/Linguists from various reputed State/Central Universities, Engineering Colleges and other academic institutions are preparing the targeted Telugu equivalents words for about 5000 engineering terms in the meeting. The experts committee has suggested to organize a review meeting at Hyderabad or Delhi for finalizing all 49,000 engineering terms prepared in Telugu equivalent words.

Preparation of a comprehensive glossary of Engineering terms in Urdu language is also in pipeline.

Webinar on Millets held at MANUU

The Botany section of School of Sciences, Maulana Azad National Urdu University organized an International online webinar on Health Talk on March 19, 2022 as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and 25 Years celebrations of MANUU.

Dr. Vilas A Tonapi, Director, Indian Institute of Millets (ICAR), Hyderabad delivered talk "Millets for Global Food and Nutrition Security" focusing on the importance of Millets in our daily food. He said Millets like Jowar, Bajra, Ragi and Kangni are rich in Nutrition compare to Rice and Wheat. Everyone should start including minimum of 100 grams of Millet food in daily dietary chart to curb the new life style diseases, he suggest.

Prof. Najamul Hasan, Incharge Dean, School of Sciences also spoke on the occasion. Prof. S. Maqbool Ahmed, Head Life Sciences said that United Nations General Assembly has decided to celebrate 2023 as International year of Millets. University Grants Commission has also notified to organize events on this forgotten cereal crop. He also expressed interest to have collaboration of MANUU with IIMR, Hyderabad in holding workshop and Food festival in future.

MANUU awards Ph.D. to Minhaj ul Abedin

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) has declared Mr. Minhaj ul Abedin, S/o Mr. Moulana Zafar Alam qualified in Doctor of Philosophy in Translation Studies. He has worked on the topic "Tareekh ki Muntakhab Arabi Kitabon ke Beeswin Sadi me kiye gaye Urdu Tarajim: Ek Jaiza" (Urdu Translation of select History Books written in Arabic during 20th Century: A review) under the supervision of Prof. Mohd. Zafaruddin, Department of Translation. His Viva-Voce was conducted on February 24, 2022.

She has worked on the topic "Customers Perception towards Cashless Economy – A Study of Payment Banks" under the supervision of Dr. Shaik Kamruddin, Assistant Professor, Department of Management & Commerce. Her Viva-Voce was conducted on February 3, 2022.

Lecture on Gender and Development held at MANUU

The Department of Economics, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in collaboration with the Department of Women Education organized a special online lecture "Gender and Development" on March 9, 2022 to commemorate International Womens Day.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Halima Sadia Rizvi, Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. In her lecture, she focused on different gender specific developmental issues and presented the history of gender development. Prof. Halima also highlighted the concept/measurement of women development viz-a-viz Human Development, policy interventions, role of institutions, government, other stakeholders in women empowerment.

Prof. Farida Siddiqui, Dean, School of Arts & Social Sciences and Head, Department of Economics and Dr. Ameena Tahseen, Head, Department of Women Education were present on the occasion.

Dr. Aijaz Abdullah, Assistant Professor, Economics at MANUU Arts and Science College, Satellite Campus Budgam welcomed the resource person and participants of programme and coordinated the event. He also proposed a vote of thanks.

The Lecture was attended by faculty members, research scholars and students of MANUU and other institutions.

MANUU celebrates womens day with special posters

Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) today released two Posters with the messages "MANUU stands with Gender Equality" and "Will you help break the gender bias?" prepared by the Department of Women Education (DWE) of the University on the occasion of International Womens Day 2022 in the presence of Prof. Sk. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar, MANUU and Dr. Ameena Tahseen, Head, DWE.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ainul Hasan appealed to the whole world to eliminate the inequalities that exist among us and help in breaking the gender bias. We have not created a separate world for men, both men and women have the same rights. Our constitution also says that we should empower this equality and support should be provided to those who are in need, he said.

Prof. Hasan also appreciated the department and in particularly Prof. Shahida, Director I/c, Center for Women Studies, Prof. Farida Siddiqui, Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences and Dr. Ameena Tahseen for their efforts in organizing a symposium "Women Empowerment: Issues and Strategies" on the occasion of International Womens Day 2022.

The Department is also organizing academic and cultural activities as part of 75th year of Freedom "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" and to celebrate the Silver Jubilee year of MANUU.

A play on the theme "Saga of Womens life Journey" and a mono act on "Dowry: A symbol of Socio-Cultural exploitation of Women" was also presented by MANUU Drama Club on the occasion.

As part of Womens day celebration, NSS student volunteers, in collaboration with the Internal Complaints Committee of MANUU, under the supervision of Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell distributed badges with the slogan "MANUU respects women" among the University officials.

According to Dr. Ameena Tahseen, Head, DWE a symposium "Womens Empowerment: Problems and Strategies" will be held on March 8, 2022 at 3 to 5 pm at CPDUMT Auditorium, MANUU.

Prof. SM Rahmatulla, Pro Vice-Chancellor will preside over and Mr. Shah Nawaz Qasim, IPS, & Director, Minority Welfare, Govt. of Telangana will be the chief guest.

Prof. Padmaja Shah, Former Head, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, OU, Prof. Farida Siddiqui, Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Shahida, Director I/c, Center for Women Studies and Captain Syeda Salwa Fatima will also address.

MANUU Drama Club will present a play and a mono act on the theme of women empowerment. Chart Making Competition will also be organized.

In collaboration with Department of Economics an online extension lecture "Gender and Development" by Prof. Halima Sadia Rizvi, Head, Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi will also be organized on March 9.

Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor will be presiding an online Womens Poetry session "An evening to celebrate womens greatness" scheduled to be held on March 14 from 3.30 to 5.30 pm. Prof. Ashraf Rafi, Former Head, Department of Urdu, OU will be the chief guest and eminent poetess Tasneem Jauhar will be the guest of honour.

The Department of Persian, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in collaboration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), New Delhi is organizing 2nd Raja Dhanrajgir Memorial lecture on March 16, 2022 at 12.00 noon.

The eminent scholar, Prof. S M Azizuddin Husain, Former Director, Raza Library, Rampur & Former Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Head, Department of History, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi will deliver lecture on "The Contribution of Sufis of Deccan for the Promotion of Learning and Communal Harmony; with special reference to Persian Resources". Rajkumari Indra Devi Dhanrajgir, Ambassador of Deccani Culture will be the chief guest. Prof. Sheikh Aquil Ahmed, Director, NCPUL and Prof. Sk. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar MANUU are the guests of honour. Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-chancellor will preside over the lecture.

MANUU Pr: Prof. Fazul Rahman appointed VC of Dr. Abdul Haq Urdu University

Prof. P. Fazul Rahman, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Abdul Haq Urdu University (DAHUU), Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.

According to a notification released by the Department of Higher Education, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Biswabhusan Harichandan in his capacity as the Chancellor of the University has appointed Prof. PF Rahman as the Vice-Chancellor of DAHUU for a term of four years.

Prof. Rahman obtained his Ph.D in Nematology from Aligarh Muslim University in 1993. He is the first employee who joined MANUU in 1998, served as Assistant Director, Reader before being appointed as Professor-Director, UGC-Academic Staff College in 2007, Professor, School of Sciences in 2013 and Director, UGC-HRDC in 2019. He also served in different capacities including Controller of Examinations I/c, Director (Directorate of Distance Education, Directorate of Admission and IQAC) Dean (School of Sciences, Students Welfare) and Member of EC & AC etc.

He has 27 years of experience in Research Teaching Academic administration Institutional establishment, Development and Management. Prof. Rahman also visited United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Australia, United Arab, Emirates and Qatar. He co-authored a book "Nematode Taxonomy: Concepts and recent trends" and also presented research papers in international seminars and attended various International Conferences. He has been nominated by UGC for various academic committees.

MANUU awards Ph.D. to Tanzeem Alam in Translation Studies

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) has declared Mr. Md. Tanzeem Alam qualified in Doctor of Philosophy in Translation Studies. He has worked on the topic "Fuzala e Deoband ki Arabi say Urdu Mein Tarjuma karda Adabi o Lisani Kitabon ka Jayeza" (A review of literary & linguistic books translated from Arabic to Urdu by Scholars of Deoband) under the supervision of Dr. Syed Mahmood Kazmi, Associate Professor, Department of Translation. His Viva-Voce was held on 25-01-2022.
