High Court gives stay on NEET for state students,
Hyderabad, Dec 01: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday granted an interim stay on the extension of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for students of the state wanting to pursue MBBS.
Justice Vilas V. Afzulpukar granted the interim order while dealing with a petition by Ms Mounika Sri Bhavani from Hyde-rabad and four others seeking a direction to declare the December 21, 2010 notification of the Medical Council of India to conduct the NEET for MBBS courses every year in the country as illegal.
The petitioners contended that students of the state were governed by Article 371 (d) of the Constitution and therefore the Centre’s order requiring the students to sit for the NEET at the national level was unconstitutional. The petitioners also pointed out that the examinations of CBSE and other Central boards were different from the syllabus of the Board of Intermediate Studies. Equating them at this stage would be unjust and illegal.
