Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has opened the online registration window for civil services preliminary exam from today, February 19, 2019.

Candidates are informed that the UPSC civil services examination (CSE) 2019 preliminary level will be conducted on June 2, 2019. The main examination for UPSC civil services exam will be conducted on September 20, 2019 . The main examination for UPSC Indian Forest Service (IFS) will be conducted on December 1, 2019.

Educational qualification:

The candidates must have a degree from an esteemed University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification, to appear in the exam.

Age limit:

Candidates with age between 21-39 years of age can appear for the prelims exams. There is age relaxation for reserved category.

  • The preliminary test comprises of Paper-I and Paper-II.
  • In the objective type, multiple choice questions are asked that carry a total of 400 marks. In the general studies paper – II, a candidate has to qualify with minimum of 33 per cent marks.
  • Negative marks for every question is one-third of the marks assigned to that question. The questions in Paper-I come from seven different test areas like 1) Science and technology, 2) history and culture, 3) geography, 4) Indian Polity, 5) Indian economy, 6) environment and ecology and 7) current events of national and international importance.
  • A registration number will be generated which candidate has to note down. The applicant has to pay the fees and select the centre, upload scanned photograph and signature.

Selection Process

The UPSC recruitment consists of a three-level exam including prelims, main and interview. Candidates have to qualify all three levels.

The candidates shortlisted after prelims examination will be called in for Main exam. The candidates who qualify main exam will have to appear for personal interview. The final selection list of the candidates who appeared for these process will be released on the official website.

Important Instructions to fill Online Application Form:

  1. Candidates are advised to go through the instructions carefully before filling up the application form.
  2. Online submission of application can only be made at website https://upsconline.nic.in. Detailed instructions are available at the site. Candidate should read the instructions carefully before making any entry or selecting options. Candidate should supply all the required details while filling up the online form.
  3. Candidates may please note that changes are not allowed in the online application, once it is submitted. If you wish to make any changes, you may submit a fresh application with requisite revision by the last date for receipt of application i.e. 18-03-2019 (6:00 P.M.).
  4. Online Application Form is available in English and in Hindi Language but it can only be filled in English Language.
  5. The filling of online application contains two parts.
  6. In Part I registration, candidate will have to fill basic information. On submission of details, candidate will be prompted to check the details and make correction, if any, in the application.
  7. Part-II Registration consists of following Stages. filling up Payment details (except for fee exempted candidates), selection of examination centre, uploading of Photograph, Signature, Photo Identity Card Document and Declaration.
  8. Registration of Part-I & Part-II will be treated as valid from 19-02-2019 to 18-03-2019 (6:00 P.M.).
  9. Candidate must press “I agree” button after he /she finds that information supplied by him /her is in order and no correction is required. Thereafter no correction/modification shall be allowed.
  10. When “I agree” button is pressed, a page with Registration Number will be generated. Please note down Registration Number or take a print out of the page.
  11. Scanned photograph should be in JPG format and must be uploaded first.
  12. After uploading your photograph then upload your scanned signature in JPG format.
  13. Next upload your photo identity card document in PDF format only.
  14. Candidates can pay application fee online through SBI Net banking or by cash through SBI bank challan or through credit card/debit card.
  15. On successful completion of your complete application, an auto-generated email message will be sent on your registered email-id.
