World AIDS Day is Observed on 1st December

World AIDS Day is celebrated every December 1st. Since 1988, people have been celebrating this day. Celebrating this day is to raise awareness of HIV infection prevention among individuals. The last week of November is celebrated annually as AIDS Awareness Week. In 1984, the first AIDS Awareness Week took place in San Francisco.
 
Highlights:
♦ This year the following theme is "Global Solidarity and Shared Responsibility" on World AIDS Day.
♦ As of 2017, around 2.14 million individuals in India have AIDS, according to figures from the NACO - National AIDS Control Organization.
♦ As of 2018, after South Africa and Nigeria, India is the third largest place of residence for AIDS patients worldwide. India`s HIV infection rate is lower than in many other nations.
♦ The prevalence of AIDS in India was 0.3 percent in 2016 . This is the world`s 80th-highest. India, through antiretroviral drugs and educational services, is fighting the disease.
 
National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO):
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare founded the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) in 1992. It is in a leading role in AIDS control. It works every two years with the National Institute of Medical Statistics and the Medical Research Council of India to estimate illnesses. The first such estimate of India was finalised in 1998, and the last was done in 2017. The number of centres delivering free antiretroviral care has been increased from 54 to 91 by NACO. Due to COVID-19, the number of AIDS patients in the country has greatly increased in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the country’s government plan to reduce AIDS has ceased.
 
December 5 is designated as World Soil Day:
 
December 5th is celebrated as World Soil Day each and every year. "Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity" is the theme for World Soil Day 2020.
 
Highlights:
♦ It aims to resolve increasingly severe soil management problems, address soil biodiversity declines, increase soil awareness and encourage governments, organisations, societies and individuals around the world to make commitments to strengthen the value of preserving sexual awareness of healthy environments and human well-being. Actively enhancing the condition of the soil.
♦ The rising issue due to population growth was also highlighted by World Soil Day. Therefore to ensure food protection, it is important to take steps to minimise soil erosion and preserve fertility.
♦ An international celebration of Soil Day in 2002 was recommended by the International Union of Soil Science (IUSS).
♦ In addition, within the Kingdom of Thailand and within the context of the Global Soil Alliance, FAO supports the official establishment of World Soil Day as a global awareness-raising forum.
