International Anti-Corruption Day is observed on 9 December:

International Anti-Corruption Day is observed on 9 December. The day aims to raise awareness about corruption and the measures that can be taken to combat corruption. 

Theme:

The theme for the year 2019 is United Against Corruption. The theme was set by the UN to support the 2030 Agenda. UN conducts the #UnitedAgainstCorruption. 

#UnitedAgainstCorruption: The campaign focuses on corruption as it is one of the biggest obstacles to achieve the SDG. 

Corruption:

♦ Corruption is exercising the use of powers by government officials or their network contacts for illegitimate private gain. The form of corruption includes patronage, influence peddling, graft, bribery, nepotism, extortion, cronyism. Corruption can undermine social and economic development in all societies. Sadly, no country, region or community is immune from corruption.

♦ UN reported that every year $1 trillion is paid in bribes. It also estimated $2.6 trillion is stolen annually through corruption. The amount that is bribed in a year is the sum equivalent to more than 5% of the global Gross domestic product (GDP). The United Nations Development Programme report stated that in developing countries the funds that are lost to corruption are estimated at 10 times the amount of official development assistance.

History:

On 31 October 2003, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption. It passed a resolution and designated 9 December as International Anti-Corruption Day. The day was designated to raise awareness of corruption and of the role of the Convention in combating and preventing it.  The Convention came into force in December 2005.

International Universal Health Coverage Day is observed on 12 December:

International Universal Health Coverage Day is observed on 12 December every year. The day is observed globally to highlight the importance of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for strong and resilient health systems. The day reminds that every person, despite who they are or where they live, should be able to get the quality health care they need without facing financial hardship.

Theme:

The theme of the International Universal Health Coverage Day is to `Keep the promise`. The theme reminds all the governments, leaders, and organizations to support and provide health investments. It ensures to provide strong, equitable health systems to the population of the world so that no one left behind and get health care facilities.

History:

On 12 December 2012, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed the resolution on global health and accelerate the progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). On 25 September 2015, the UNGA passed a resolution on Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and adopted the target of UHC by 2030. The target includes financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to effective, safe, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all.

UHC ensures people of all groups, religion, caste, etc. to get quality health services without any financial hardships. It includes quality treatment, health services, rehabilitation, from health promotion to prevention and palliative care.
