 1. Second Khelo India Youth Games begins in Pune, Maharashtra

The second edition of Khelo India Youth Games officially begins in Pune, Maharashtra. Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will attend a virtual torch ceremony at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in the evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the event through a video message.
More than 9,000 players from different states will participate in 18 different events. Star Shooter Manu Bhaker, who won a Gold at the Youth Olympics, Saurabh Chaudhari, as well as weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga will be among the cream of India`s youth sporting talent competing at the Games. 
Three 10-year-old athletes - footballer Pratima Kumar from Jharkhand, hockey player Laltlanchhungi from Mizoram and West Bengal’s 10-metre Air Rifle Shooter Abhinav Shaw - will pick up their first experience of competing in a large-scale multi-discipline event.
The hockey tournament for boys has already started in Mumbai.
 
2. Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul suspended pending inquiry into comments on TV show
 
Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul were suspended pending an inquiry into their comments on women during a TV show. 
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai said both Pandya and Rahul have been suspended pending an inquiry. 
They were omitted from the line-up for the opening match in Sydney. The decision to hand them suspensions came after Rai`s CoA colleague Diana Edulji recommended suspension till further action against the two. 
 
3. Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri receive honorary membership of Sydney Cricket Ground
 
India skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri received the honorary membership of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) for their contribution to the sport of cricket. 
Congratulating India for their Test series win on Australian soil, SCG Chairman Tony Shepherd expressed happiness that the world`s largest cricketing nation India was putting its focus firmly on Test cricket. 
The only other international cricketers to be granted the honorary membership of the SCG are Sachin Tendulkar and Brain Lara of the West Indies.
 
4. Bavleen Kaur takes J&K to new heights in gymnastics
 
Budding gymnast Bavleen Kaur from Jammu and Kashmir stole the limelight at the Khelo India Youth Games in Pune after she took home three gold and two silver medals. 
Jammu and Kashmir had won six medals till the end of the competition and of those, five belonged to Bavleen, who turns 16 later this week. 
 
5. IWF president named as Chef de Mission for Tokyo Olympics
 
President of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Birendra Prasad Baishya, has been named Chef de Mission for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 
IWF Secretary Sahdev Yadav said in a release that it is for the first time that the Weightlifting has been accorded with the honour of Chef de Mission for the Olympics.
Baishya is also one of the Indian Olympic Association Vice Presidents. 
 
6. Harendra Singh removed as Indian men`s hockey team coach
 
Indian men`s hockey coach Harendra Singh was sacked from the position and offered the task of helming the junior squad by the national federation.
The year 2018 was very disappointing for the Indian Men`s Hockey Team with results not going as expected, they believe investing in the junior program which will reap long-term benefits. 
Hockey India said that it will be inviting applications for the position of chief coach and in the interim the team will be overseen by Hockey India High Performance Director David John and current Analytical Coach, Chris Ciriello
Harendra Singh was brought in as men`s coach in May 2018 after Sjoerd Marijne was moved back to the women`s camp. 
 
7. Mary Kom attains number one position in AIBA rankings
 
M C Mary Kom has attained number one position in the International Boxing Association`s (AIBA) latest world rankings.  
She became the most successful boxer in world championships` history when she claimed the 48kg category top honours in Delhi in November last year.
In the d rankings put out by AIBA, Mary Kom is placed top of the charts in the weight division with 1700 points.
She will have to jump to 51kg in pursuit of her 2020 Olympic dream as 48kg is not yet included in the Games roster. 
Last year she picked up gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and a tournament in Poland. 
She also won a silver at the prestigious Strandja Memorial in Bulgaria. In the 51kg category list Pinki Jangra is placed eighth.  Asian silver-medallist Manisha Maun is  placed eighth in the 54kg category.
In the 57kg division, former world silver-medallist Sonia Lather was placed at the second spot. World bronze-medallist Simranjit Kaur  took the fourth position in the 64 kg category.
India Open gold-medallist and world bronze-winner Lovlina Borgohain took the fifth position in the 69kg category. 
 
8. Khelo India: Maharashtra lead medal tally
 
The second day of the 12-day sporting extravaganza Khelo India was action-packed with a few records being broken by the young athletes. 
Maharashtra enhanced lead in the medal tally with 30 medals including 10 gold.
In Khelo India Youth game Maharashtra is now leading Medal tally with 10 Gold 12 Silver & 8 Bronze because of there performance in Gymnastic. 
With the achievement in Judo Delhi is on Number 2 with 10 Gold 7 Silver & 9 Bronze Medals. 
Last Years Number one Haryana is still on Number 3. 
Maharashtra swept the Gymnastic event of Khelo India. Siddhi Hattekar, Mahish Gadhave, Krisha Cheda, Shreyas Mandlik and Shreya Bangalore bagged Gold in different categories. 
6 Gold Medals of Judo were decided out of which 3 are won by Delhi players and 1 each went to Haryana, U.P and Gujrat. In swimming, Karnataka was leading with 13 medals. 
Zakhuma of Mizoram established a new national record in weightlifting 61 kg category, Jacob Vanaltluanga of Mizoram got Silver in the same event. Soumya Dalvi of Maharashtra clinched Gold in under 17 girls 40-kilogram category. 
 
9. BCCI announces cash awards for triumphant Team India members
 
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced cash awards of Rs 15 lakh per match for each of the playing eleven that featured in India`s maiden Test Cricket series win on Australian soil.
Virat Kohli and his team defeated Australia 2-1 in the four-match Test series, ending India`s 71-year-old wait for the rare achievement.
Congratulating the team, the BCCI also announced cash awards of seven and a half lakh rupees for all the reserve players, as well as the members of the support staff. The coaches will be awarded Rs 25 lakh each. 
 
10. Egypt to host 2019 Africa Cup of Nations
 
Egypt will host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations between 15th June and 13th July. Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Ahmad Ahmad made the announcement in Senegalese capital Dakar. 
The CAF executive committee preferred Egypt to South Africa as replacement for original hosts Cameroon, who were dropped due to delays in preparations and concerns over security.
Egypt will stage the biennial showpiece of African football for the fifth time. Egypt only entered the running to host the Cup of Nations when fellow north African country Morocco announced they would not bid to do so.
 
11. India thrash Thailand 4-1 in AFC Asian Cup
 
In Football, India made a thrilling start in the opening encounter at the AFC Asian Cup campaign defeating Thailand 4-1 at Abu Dhabi last evening. 
Captain Sunil Chettri scored twice, while Anirudh Thapa and Jeje were other scorers for India.
At halftime, India and Thailand were at the level score of one goal each.
This is India’s fourth Asian Cup appearance, having last appeared in the 2011 edition of the tournament. 
 
12. Head Constable Rani wins gold medal in Senior National`s Judo C`Ship
 
Lady head constable Rani of 5th Indian Reserve Battalion of Himachal Pradesh Police won a Gold medal in the Senior National Women`s Judo Championship at Visakhapatnam.
She claimed top honours in the 78 kg category. Rani was also declared the best Judoka at the Championship.
 
13. India makes history; win their maiden series in Australia
 
India made history winning their first ever series on Australian soil beating the home team 2-1 after the fourth and final Test ended in a tame draw due to inclement weather. 
India scored 622 for 7 in their first innings and then bowled out Australia for 300 thereby enforcing the follow-on. However persistent drizzle washed out day five thereby keeping the victory margin down to 2-1.
Australia was still trailing by 316 runs when the match was called off, ending India`s 71-year wait after wins in Adelaide and Melbourne. It is the first time India managed the feat since they began touring Australia in 1947-48. Consequently, Virat Kohli became the first Indian as well as the first Asian captain to win a Test series in Australia. India reinforced their status as the world`s number one test team and retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with the series win.
Cheteshwar Pujara was declared man of the match as well as man-of-the-series.
