2. Pulitzer Prizes 2018 announced.
Winners of the 2018 Pulitzer Prizes were announced at Columbia University in New York City on Monday. The Pulitzers are highly revered and mark the best in journalism in 14 categories.
Neil Brown, Poynter`s president, is a member of the Pulitzer Prize board. While he said he can’t discuss last week`s deliberations, he offered:
“It’s clear that good reporting by one newsroom helps generate even more good journalism by others. We need more reporters working on stories to bring matters to light, and in doing so that puts more power in the hands of citizens.
"Journalism is not optional in a democracy and we must keep that in mind as newsrooms are under strain and getting smaller and smaller. It’s great to recognize the courageous and smart work of so many diverse journalists and news organizations."
3. Aditi Rao Hydari To Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award For Bhoomi.
Aditi Rao Hydari added another trophy to her achievements as she will receive Dada Saheb Phalke excellence award 2018 for the Best Leading Lady (Critics Award) for her memorable performance in `Bhoomi`.
Sure-footed, Aditi has been garnering huge about of praises for her effective portrayal in `Bhoomi` by the critics and the audiences.
The award ceremony is scheduled on April 21, 2018, at St. Andrews Auditorium in Mumbai. It will be attended by producers, directors, distributors and exhibitors among others from the film fraternity.
The film also starred Sanjay Dutt and was about the protective father who saved his daughter from all the evils that surrounded her.
4. Madhya Pradesh Conferred Most Film Friendly Award.
The Most Film Friendly State Award was announced today by the Chairman of the Jury, Shri Ramesh Sippy. The Most Film Friendly State Awards would be presented by Hon’ble President of India on May 3rd, 2018 during the presentation of the National Film Awards.
State of Madhya Pradesh has conferred the award for the Most Film Friendly State to the for its efforts towards easing filming in the State by creating a well-structured website, film-friendly infrastructure, offering incentives, maintaining databases, undertaking marketing and promotional initiatives, unanimously by the Jury from among the 16 States that participated. Madhya Pradesh also received positive feedback from established filmmakers who have shot there. The efforts taken by the State to present their case for the Awards were also appreciated. The state of Uttarakhand is given a Special Mention Certificate to recognize the efforts made by the State of Uttarakhand towards creating a film-friendly environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ramesh Sippy Chairman of the Jury said “The Jury members laud the continuing efforts of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat towards creating a film-friendly ecosystem in their States and hope that they keep up the good work. This year Madhya Pradesh where a lot of filmmakers have shot over the years has won the award due to the ease of filming that the State offers along with excellent on ground support and film infrastructure, an informative website and incentives for filmmaking.
Their entry was also presented beautifully with all required documents given in a very comprehensive manner. In addition, the jury would like to acknowledge the sincere efforts made by Uttarakhand in this direction, despite it being a relatively new State with a difficult terrain and hence has been given the Special Mention.”
The jury for selecting the Most Film Friendly State Award 2017 was chaired by acclaimed filmmaker Shri Ramesh Sippy and comprising of renowned filmmakers, Shri Nagraj Manjule, Shri Raja Krishna Menon, Shri Vivek Agnihotri, and Shri Uday Singh, MD, Motion Picture Distributors Association.
5. BCCL Chairman Indu Jain Gets Lifetime Contribution To Media Award.
Indu Jain, chairman of Bennett, Coleman & Co, India’s largest media house, which publishes newspapers and magazines, including The Times of India, on Wednesday said that it was important to ensure that government schemes were effectively implemented for allround development of India’s economy. She said this while receiving the All India Management Association’s (AIMA’s) annual award for lifetime contribution to media.
AIMA, which recognises achievers who have made a fundamental difference to society through its annual Managing India Awards, conferred on Jain the award for managing the Times Group, apart from establishing the Times Foundation, an institution working towards social causes.
Jain, who also received the Padma Bhushan in 2016, said that the Times Foundation had been doing a lot of work towards implementation of government schemes. A philanthropist, she launched the Times Foundation in 2000 to run community services, research foundation, and relief funds.
“Our latest initiative ‘National Citizens Forum’ consists of civil servants, politicians, corporates, and other important members of society. This group will work along with the government and remove any policy hurdles that slow down the process and will ensure the success of the scheme,” she said.
6. Daniel Ricciardo Wins Chinese Grand Prix 2018
The Chinese Grand Prix winner`s contract is up at the end of the 2018 F1 season, and he is an obvious candidate for both Ferrari and Mercedes if either chooses to replace one of its current drivers.
While Red Bull`s speed and strategic brilliance to help Ricciardo win at China on Sunday will have boosted its chances of retaining him for next year, Ricciardo says things are not yet so clear cut.
Speaking in an appearance on `The Project` on Australia`s Channel 10 on Tuesday, Ricciardo was clear that he wanted to see more potential from Red Bull.
"I definitely want to be with the best car," he said.
"I think the weekend proved that if I`ve got the opportunity to win I can pull it off. I can handle that pressure and that intensity. If we can win a few more with Red Bull now then that looks very attractive. If not, then I guess there are probably other options."
Pushed on whether he would view Red Bull as not good enough if it did not lift its game, Ricciardo replied: "Yeah. I said it from the start. The win helps, but if we were finishing sixth every race this year then that is not the most attractive option to me."
Red Bull boss Christian Horner said after the Chinese GP that it was up to his team to provide a winning car if it wanted to keep Ricciardo. But he cheekily suggested that his driver should also consider factors such as team atmosphere, which he suggests may not be as good at other outfits.
He cited Ferrari`s apparent decision to compromise Kimi Raikkonen`s Chinese GP strategy to assist his team-mate Sebastian Vettel.
"If you look at Kimi`s race, I didn`t understand that strategy," said Horner.
"I think Daniel`s happy in the environment. If we can provide a car like we did [in China], why would he want to be anywhere else?"
Ricciardo`s success in China has brought him to within 17 points of world championship leader Vettel, but he reckons it is "too early" to claim any confidence about a title challenge after just one win.
"We need to win regularly to kind of show that," he said.
"But if we come out and win again in two weeks in Baku then I will probably say yes."
