1) AIBA Honours Mary Kom with Legends Award
  • M C Mary Kom, a celebrated Indian boxer, will be honored with the ‘Legends Award’ from the International Boxing Association (AIBA) on its 70th anniversary ceremony which is to be held in Switzerland on December 20, 2016.
  • Mary has been recognized for the award for her outstanding achievements during her early boxing career in the world boxing championships and for setting up an example for millions of youths all around the world along with inspiring them.
  • The boxer feels that this recognition from AIBA will boost morale of female boxers across India.
2) The Man Who Knew: The Life and Times of Alan Greenspan by Sebastian Mallaby Wins 2016 FT Business Book Award
  • Eminent Journalist and Author Sebastian Mallaby has won the Financial Times & McKinsey Business Book of the Year 2016 for his ‘The Man Who Knew: The Life and Times of Alan Greenspan’ on November 22, 2016 at a ceremony in London.
  • The Man Who Knew, is the first biography to win the prize, and the 12th winner of the award with £30,000 reward.Sebastian Mallby
  • It is colourful and exhaustive biography of Alan Greenspan, the former chairman of the US Federal Reserve, which reveals all Mr Greenspan’s human qualities and professional contradictions in an easy way”.
  • The 800-page book was published in October by Bloomsbury and Penguin Press, and was ranked as “exceptional” in an FT review.
  • The book had a strong competition from five other shortlisted books. Each of the other shortlisted titles won £10,000.

It aims to find the book that has ‘the most compelling and enjoyable insight into modern business issues. The award was established in 2005 and is worth £30,000.

3) 1,668 martyrs of the Indian Army to be honored by Bangladesh
  • Liberation War Affairs Minister, Bangladesh, A.K.M. Mozammel Huq on November 26, 2016, announced that Bangladesh will honour 1,668 members of the Indian Army, who were martyred during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
  • Each family will receive a Rs. 5 lakh as a mark of respect from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina who will be in Delhi between 18-20 December to give away the money, in Indian currency, to the martyrs’ family members.
  • Apart from money a letter of gratitude from Ms. Hasina written in Bengali, English and Hindi, and a plaque, will also be given. A book on the contribution of the martyrs will be published, too.
  • Bangladeshi taka will be converted into dollars (about INR 100 crore) for 1,668 martyrs and handed over to High Commission in Delhi. They will convert it to Indian currency and the PM Sheikh Hasina will give it to the family members of the Indian martyrs.
  • A war memorial will also be set up in the Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh to pay homage to the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives for our war of liberation and independence.

  • Toonz Media Group’s short film ‘Magical Piano‘ won the short film award at the UNSECO Salon Youth Video Competition 2016  in Marrakech, Morocco

5) Stripe’s co-founder, John Collison, is world’s youngest self-made billionaire
  • As per the report of Forbes, the co-founder brothers of Stripe Inc., Patrick Collison and John Collison, are officially the world’s youngest self-made billionaires after a fresh funding round nearly doubled  their San Francisco-based  company’s valuation to US $9.2 billion
  • Stripe’s co-founder, John Collison, is world`s youngest self-made billionaireii. The Company raised $150 million from CapitalG, which is an investment division of Google parent company Alphabet, and General Catalyst Partners.
  • In July 2015, a fundraising round had valued the company at $5 billion which means the company has experienced a growth of $4.2 billion in just over a year.
  • Prior to the latest funding round, the Collisons owned about 30% of Stripe, However after the $150 million investment, FORBES estimates that each brother owns at least 12% of the company.
  • At the tender age of 26, John Collison, Stripe’s president, is now the world’s youngest self-made billionaire. Brother and CEO Patrick Collison, 28, is also on this exclusive list of self-made billionaires that are under the age of 30.
  • Snapchat co-founder Bobby Murphy, 28, is the other person on this list.

6) Four India-born CEOs on Fortune Businessperson of the Year list 2016
  • Four leading India-born CEOs have been named in Fortune’s Businessperson of the Year list that is topped by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The list includes:
  1. Microsoft’s Satya Nadella ranked 5th among 50 global corporate heads.
  2. CEO of Milwaukee-based maker of water heaters A O Smith Ajita Rajendra on the 34th spot
  3. HDFC Bank’s Managing Director Aditya Puri on the 36th position
  4. Mastercard’s Ajay Banga on 40th spot.
7) Sachin Tendulkar’s autobiography “Playing it my way” named Book of the Year
  • Sachin Tendulkar’s autobiography “Playing it my Way” has won the Crossword Book of the Year Award (Autobiography category)Sachin Autobiography
  • The book is penned by renowned cricket historian and Tendulkar’s close friend Boria Majumdar
  • Earlier, it also had entered the Limca Book of World Records for being the best selling adult hardback across both fiction and non-fiction categories.
  • It also holds the record for logging up Rs. 13.51 crore in retail value terms, with its cover price being Rs. 899.

8) Esquire Magazine named Deepika as International women and Ranveer as International man of the year
  • The sixth Esquire Man at His Best Awards 2016 was held on November 29, 2016 in Dubai. The annual event celebrates the outstanding achievements of men (and a few women) across the Middle East over the past year.
  • The event was hosted at the JW Marriott Marquis and about 500 guests were welcomed to the Dubai ballroom with a special performance by Musician of the Year, Mo Zowayed.
  • The program started with an opening speech from Editor-in-Chief of Esquire Magazine Jeremy Lawrence followed by handing over hosting duties to the impecable master-of-ceremonies Tom Urquhart.
The Award comprised of 19 awards. Some of the major awards are :
