1) Pune to host India-China `Hand-In-Hand 2016` training

  • The India-China Joint Training Exercise "Hand in Hand 2016" is scheduled to be held in Pune from November 15-27. 
  • This would mark the 6th annual joint training exercise between the Indian Army and the People`s Liberation Army of China.
  • It is aimed at honing military skills of the two armies by sharing expertise in drills while tackling insurgency and terrorism.

  • The day is observed by International Diabetes Federation and WHO in the memory of Frederick, founder of insulin.

4) Latvia becomes first to link with Belt & Road Initiative in Baltic Sea area

  • Latvia has become the first country in the Baltic Sea area to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to link up with China`s Belt and Road Initiative. 
  • The MoU was signed after Chinese Premier Li Keqiang`s meeting with his Latvian counterpart Maris Kucinskis in capital Riga, on his first visit to the European Union country. 
  • The initiative, which comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, aims to boost connectivity and trade across Asia, Africa and Europe. It was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. Li and Kucinskis also witnessed the signing of five agreements on cooperation in such areas as small and medium-sized enterprises, transportation and logistics.
5) US elections ballot receipts had ‘Thank You’ note in Hindi

  • The ‘Thank You’ receipts received by people in the city after they voted were in four languages – English, Spanish, Chinese and our very own Hindi.
