 1. Former Finance Secretary Shaktikanta Das appointed new RBI Governor

A day after Urjit Patel resigned from his post as the Governor of Reserve Bank of India with immediate effect citing personal reasons, Former Finance Secretary Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the new Governor of the apex bank.
Mr. Das will have a tenure of three years.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his name.
Mr Das is currently the Member of the Finance Commission. 
 
2. BP Singh to be the new President of FTII Society and Chairman of Governing Council
 
Government of India has nominated Shri Brijendra Pal Singh as President of the FTII Society and Chairman of FTII Governing Council, in pursuance of Rule 3 and Rule 22 of the Rules of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). 
Shri B.P. Singh’s tenure will be for the remaining period of block of 3 years starting from 04.03.2017 as per the provisions of Rule 6(1) of the Rules of FTII.
Shri BP Singh is an FTII alumnus (1970-73) who specialized in film cinematography and has earned repute as Producer- Director of popular TV serial CID which recently completed a record 21 years unbroken run on SONY TV. 
In 2004 he made it to the Limca Book of Records for taking a single continuous shot of 111 minutes to mark the completion of six years of CID.
 
 
3. Shri Bharat Bhushan Vyas takes Oath of Office and Secrecy as Member, UPSC
 
Shri Bharat Bhushan Vyas, IAS (J&K 1986) (Retired.) took the Oath of Office and Secrecy as Member, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). 
The Oath was administered by Shri Arvind Saxena, Chairman, UPSC. 
He served in State & Centre in various capacities and retired as Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir. Before assuming charge as Member, UPSC, he was serving as Adviser to the Governor, Jammu & Kashmir.
 
4. Noted English writer Amitav Ghosh honoured with Jnanpith Award
 
Noted English writer Amitav Ghosh has been honoured with this year`s Jnanpith Award. 
In his novels, Ghosh treads through historical settings to the modern era and weaves a space where the past connects with the present in relevant ways. 
Ghosh, one of the most prominent contemporary Indian writers, is known for a series of novels such as "Shadow Lines", "The Glass Palace", "The Hungry Tide", and Ibis Trilogy  "Sea of Poppies", "River of Smoke", and "Flood of Fire" chronicling the Opium trade between India and China run by the East India Company. Ghosh is also recipient of the Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award.
 
 
5. CAG Rajiv Mehrishi appointed as Vice-Chair of UN Panel of Auditors
 
Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Rajiv Mehrishi was elected as Vice-Chair of United Nations (UN) Panel of Auditors at its annual meeting held in New York.
In this meeting CAG of UK was also appointed as Chair of Panel for another term (2019).
The meeting discussed various issues concerning audit of United Nations and the agencies under the United Nations System.
The next meeting will be held in in Bonn, Germany in November-December 2019.
 
6. Prime Minister Modi condoles the passing away of Shri Jagdish Thakkar
 
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of Shri Jagdish Thakkar, the PRO in the PMO.
“Extremely saddened by the demise of Shri Jagdish Thakkar, the PRO in the PMO. Jagdishbhai was a veteran journalist and I had the pleasure of working with him for years, both in Gujarat and in Delhi. He was known for his simplicity and warm-hearted nature.
He had previously served with many Chief Ministers of Gujarat. We have lost a wonderful person, who loved his work and did it with utmost diligence. Condolences to his family and well wishers”, the Prime Minister said.
 
 
7. Sahitya Akademi Award

 

 

 
India’s national academy of letters Sahitya Academy has announced names of 24 poets and authors who will be conferred the prestigious 2018 Sahitya Akademi Award in 24 different Indian languages.
It is literary honour that is conferred annually on Indian writers for their outstanding works of literary merit.
It was established in 1954.
It is conferred annually on writers of outstanding works in one of the twenty-four major Indian languages (22 Scheduled Languages+ English and Rajasthani).
The award consists of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque (designed by film-maker Satyajit Ray), a shawl and cheque of Rs.1 Lakh.
 
8. ISB professor Krishnamurthy Subramanian appointed as new Chief Economic Adviser
 
Krishnamurthy holds a PhD from Chicago-Booth and is a top-ranking IIT-IIM alumnus. He is one of the world’s leading experts in banking, corporate governance and economic policy.
Krishnamurthy Subramanian was appointed as the new Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) for a period of three years.
“The post of CEA had been lying vacant since Arvind Subramanian stepped down after a four-year stint earlier this year.
He served as a member of SEBI’s Standing Committees on Alternative Investment Policy, Primary Markets, Secondary Markets and Research. As part of his corporate policy work, he served on the boards of Bandhan Bank, the first bank to be licensed after independence in eastern India, the National Institute of Bank Management, and the RBI Academy.
