N Biren Singh, a senior BJP politician, was sworn in as Chief Minister of Manipur for a second five-year term.

  • On March 21, 2022, senior BJP leader N Biren Singh was sworn in as Chief Minister of Manipur for a second consecutive five-year term. In the 2022 Manipur Assembly election, the ruling BJP party ran for all 60 seats and won 32 of them.

  • Nongthombam (N) Biren Singh began his career as a player before moving into journalism and eventually politics.

  • The BJP earned an absolute majority in the 2018 Assembly elections, gaining 32 of the 60 seats available. Six seats went to the JD(U), five to the NPF, and two to the KPA.

An innovative measure for sustainable development is a road entirely made of steel waste built in Surat, Gujarat.
 
Highlights:
 
  • As a measure of sustainable development, a road entirely made of steel waste was built in Surat, Gujarat. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) India, the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), and the government think tank Niti Aayog worked on the steel slag road.
  • Surat, Gujarat`s Hazira Industrial Area, has built a one-of-a-kind road.
  • The road is entirely made of steel slag treated to 1000 percent. Steel slag, which is considered a waste product, is a significant source of concern for the steel industry.
  • Metallurgical and metal-processing waste disposal in landfills has an exceptionally high environmental impact. As a natural construction material substitute, processed steel slag aggregate has a lot of promise.
  • The test project is a one-kilometer, six-lane road. The path has proven to be dependable thus far. Almost 1,000 trucks, weighing 18 to 30 tonnes, travel along the steel route every day.
