 New Delhi will host the International Geological Congress.

 
On a virtual platform, the 36th International Geological Congress (IGC) will be placed here on March 20-22, 2022, with the topic "Geosciences: The Basic Science for a Sustainable Future."
 
Highlights:
 
  • The 36th International Geophysical Congress collaborates with the Ministries of Mines and Earth Sciences, the Indian National Science Academy, and the Science Academies of Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
  • The IGCs termed the "Olympics of Geosciences" are conducted every four years under the International Union of Geological Congress (IUGS), the IGCs` Scientific Sponsor.
  • The conference will provide a unique forum for knowledge and experience sharing in the geosciences and professional networking and information on the latest technology in mining, mineral exploration, water, mineral resource, and environmental management.
  • On the occasion of the 36th IGC, three commemorative Postage Stamps will be issued and a First Day Cover.

 Saksham, an ICG offshore patrol vessel, has been commissioned in Goa.

 
The `Saksham,` the Indian Coast Guard`s sixth offshore patrol vessel, was commissioned in Goa by Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar.
 
Highlights:
 
  • Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar commissioned the Indian Coast Guard`s sixth offshore patrol vessel, the `Saksham,` in Goa.
  • Goa Shipyard Limited designed and built the 105-meter offshore patrol vessel (OPV), equipped with advanced technology, navigation and communication systems, sensors, and machinery.
  • The ship will be equipped with one twin-engine helicopter and four high-speed boats, including two inflatable boats for boarding, search and rescue, law enforcement, and maritime patrol.
  • Saksham is also equipped to control oil spills at sea with limited pollution response equipment.

 Karnataka has launched the Dishaank Land Records App.

 
The Survey Settlement and Land Records (SSLR) department of Karnataka`s tax department ensures quick access to authentic land records by introducing the Dishaank app.
 
Highlights:
 
  • The app was created as part of the Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Center`s Geographical Information System (GIS) program (KSRSAC).
  • They provide satellite data to agencies like the SSLR for more creative purposes.
  • The app was developed with the latest digital technology, scanned, and geo-referenced maps.
  • The app gives information about the land, such as the proprietor`s name, the size of the are, the type of ownership, the type of land, its categories, and any other current land transactions.
  • WIth the help of the app, people can have quick access to information about the land stored in the Bhoomi database. This would assist in reducing land disputes and ensure that land records are kept transparently.
  • The main objective of this initiative is to provide details on the status of any land. But it is porhibited to use for legal purposes in any land-related cases.
