Tripura launched Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar scheme:

 
Tripura State government declared the scheme Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar. The scheme aims to provide the pregnant and lactating women with nutrition kits. The program is intended to help the state`s 40,000 residents. The initiative has been initiated, as many pregnant women and infants suffer from malnutrition in the state.
 
Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar scheme:
♦ Under the program, the pregnant & lactating women will be given nutrition kits. Each kit costs roughly Rs.500.
♦ Every kit will contain food products and supplies of food such as peanuts, soybeans, mixed pulses, jaggery, and ghee.
♦ This year, the state government has predicted that it would incur Rs.8 crore spending on the initiative.
♦ The pregnant women will be screened four times at a local Primary Health Centers (PHC) under this program. The beneficiaries will be given a nutrition kit after every test after the check-up.
♦ Besides the Pradhan Mantri Matru Bandana Yojana, the scheme will be in.
♦ Previously the state had given Rs.5,000 each to 58,996 beneficiaries under the Matru Bandana Yojana.

Russia announces to take 1st tourist on space walk in 2023 year

Russia`s Energia Space Corporation has announced that, under a new deal with a US company, it will take the first tourist on a spacewalk in 2023. Energia has concluded a Space Adventures deal. Despite this the International Space Station (ISS) has two space tourists.
 
Highlights:
♦ Energia announced after NASA signed an agreement with Richard Branson`s space travel firm Virgin Galactic. Following a special training program in the USA, the agreement is to facilitate private missions to the station.
♦ The plan is launched after Elon Musk`s SpaceX`s first successful mission to take astronauts to the station on a reusable Crew Dragon spacecraft in the month of May 2020. That has ended almost a decade of Russia holding a monopoly on shutting people into orbit.
♦ In March SpaceX revealed its own space tourism trip on board the Crew Dragon for three people in the year 2020.
♦ SpaceX had previously taken 8 tourists to the ISS between 2001 and 2009, together with the Russian agency.

National Statistics Day is observed on 29 June:

Each year on 29 June National Statistics Day is celebrated. The day is to celebrate Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis `s birthday. The day aims to raise awareness among young people about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and formulating policies. The nation is making homage to Professor Mahalanobis this day. Its main objective of the day is to make the use of statistics popular in everyday life 
 
History:
On 29 June 2007 the National Statistics Day was celebrated for the first time. The Indian Government agreed to recognize and honor the outstanding contribution made in the field of economic planning and statistical growth by late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. GoI declared therefore the observation of `National Statistics Day` on the birthday of late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.
 
Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis:
Father of Indian Statistics is Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. He was born June 29, 1893. He was an Indian Scientist and Statistician. He was a pioneer in studies of anthropometry and pilot surveys. He served as a member of the 1956-61 planning commission. He provided two-sector input-output model for the Second Five Year Plan that was later known as the Nehru-Mahalanobis model.
 
He founded Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in Kolkata in December 1931. He was awarded with Padma Vibhushan in 1968, the University of Oxford`s Weldon Memorial Prize in 1944, Royal Society Fellow in London in 1945.

National Current Affairs June 4th Week 2020

Arunachal Pradesh to provide 100 percent tap connections in the State by 2023 March:

 
The state government of Arunachal Pradesh is to introduce Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the state. The mission aims to improve rural people`s lives by providing safe drinking water to every rural household through connections with the household tap.
 
Highlights:
♦ Arunachal Pradesh aims to provide all state households with 100 per cent Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) by March 2023.
♦ In 2020-21 the Indian government allocated Rs.255 crore to the State under the JJM. Additional funds will be granted to the state in the form of performance grants based on their achievement in terms of measurable results, that is, connections to the household tap and commensurate financial development.
♦ According to official data of the state, 2.18 lakh total rural households, tap connections have already been given to 37,000 households.
♦ In 2020-21 the State plans to have 77,000 tap connections.
♦ The state government is to concentrate on retrofitting and through the already existing piped water supply schemes in the villages / habitations so that the remaining household can be easily provided with tap connections in campaign mode in the least time possible.
