World Development Information Day Is Celebrated On 24 October:

Every year on October 24, the United Nations observes World Development Information Day.
 
Highlights:
♦ The purpose of the Day is to draw the attention of the world`s public opinion to development issues and the need to strengthen international cooperation to solve them in order to promote overall growth and development.
♦ In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly established World Development Information Day to coincide with United Nations Day.
♦ The United Nations General Assembly established World Development Information Day in 1972 to draw attention to the world`s development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation to address them.
♦ The Assembly decided that the Day should be held on October 24, the same day as United Nations Day.
♦ It was also the date when the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade was adopted.

U.S. Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrated On 11 October:

Indigenous Peoples Day was declared by US President Joe Biden on October 11th.
 
Highlights:
 
♦ The purpose of the day was to honour the strength and resilience of indigenous peoples who have lived in the United States for thousands of years, as well as the positive impact they have had on American society.
♦ Several states had previously adopted this and abandoned Columbus Day celebrations.
♦ This day was replaced by time as Columbus Day, which commemorates the explorer who sailed from Spain in 1492 with a crew aboard three ships, the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.
♦ The first state to officially recognise this day was "South Dakota," which declared it Native Americans` Day in 1990.
♦ On June 21, 1996, Canada declared this day "National Indigenous Peoples` Day."
