History of Day

The Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women issued by the UN General Assembly in 1993 defines violence against women. The act of gender-based violence that results in physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life. Several public events are coordinated at the International Day. The Iconic buildings and landmarks will be ‘oranged’ to recall the need for a violence-free future.

National Milk Day was celebrated on 26 November:

National Milk Day is celebrated on 26 November every year in India. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien. The day aims to promote benefits related to milk and milk industry. It also raises awareness among people about the importance of milk and milk products. In 2019, India is celebrating the 98th birth anniversary of Dr. Kurien.
The day was instituted by the Indian Dairy Association (IDA) in 2014. IDA took the initiative to designate 26 December as the National Milk Day. The United Nations celebrate World Milk Day on 1 June every year. The first National Milk Day was celebrated on 26 November 2014. The day was observed by various milk producers from 22 states fo India.
Dr. Verghese Kurien:
Dr. Verghese Kurien is popularly known as the Father of the White Revolution and Milkman of India. The famous Indian social entrepreneur was born on 26 November 1921. He organized the world`s largest agricultural dairy development programme named Operation Flood. In 1964, he was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award. He received Padma Shri in 1965, Padma Bhushan in 1966 and Padma Vibhushan in 1999. He was awarded Food Prize in 1989. In 1997, he received the World Order of Agricultural Merit. His efforts made India`s dairy farming the largest self-sustaining industry and the largest rural employment provider.
Constitution Day was observed on 26 November:
Constitution Day was observed on 26 November every year. The Constitution day is also known as National Law Day or National Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas. The celebration in 2019 marked the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. 
The day aims to raise awareness about the Indian Constitution. It also acknowledges the contribution of the framers of the Constitution and aggravates the people regarding the prominent values. It publicizes the rich composite culture and diversity of India. 
The Constitution of India was adopted on 26 November 2019. And it came to effect only on 26 January 1950. It marked the new era in the history of India. The day creates awareness of Fundamental Duties as enshrined in the Indian Constitution. On 19 November 2015, the BJP-led government declared 26 November as Constitution Day. The first Constitution was observed on 26 November 2015.

♦ Events were organized in New Delhi by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

Africa Industrialization day is observed on 20th November:

Africa Industrialization Day is observed on 20th November every year. On this day, all governments and other organizations in many African countries examine ways to stimulate the industrialization process of Africa. The day spotlights the problems and challenges of industrialization in Africa.


The them for the 2019 Africa Industrialization Day is Positioning African Industry to supply the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), Market. The theme was set to raise awareness in the international community on the challenges and opportunities for Africa`s industrialization within the framework of the newly created African Continental Free Trade Area.


In July 1989, the Organization of African Unity (OAU) announced declared the observance of the Africa Industrialization Day at the 25th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of OAU, which was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. On 22 December 1989, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 20 November to be Africa Industrialization Day. The day was first observed in 1990 across the world.

World Pneumonia Day is observed on 12 November:

World Pneumonia Day is observed on 12th November. The day aims to fight against pneumonia. It also creates awareness about pneumonia disease, its symptoms, causes, and treatment.


The theme for 2019 World Pneumonia Day is Healthy lungs for all. The day aims to raise awareness, promote prevention and treatment, and produce action to combat the disease. The day promotes interventions to prevent, treat, and protect against pneumonia. It also highlights the proven approaches and solutions in need of additional resources and attention.


Pneumonia is the world`s leading infectious killer of children under the age of 5. It is caused by a bacteria known as Streptococcus pneumonia. Other bacterial causal organisms are Mycoplasma pneumonia, Haemophilus influenza, etc. The infection inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. It may fill with fluid or pus and cause cough with phlegm or pus, chills, fever, and difficulty breathing. Apart from bacteria, viruses, and fungi can also cause pneumonia. 

Symptoms: Fatigue, Fever, sweating, Weakness, Diarrhoea, Headache, Nausea, or vomiting are the symptoms of pneumonia.

Prevention: It can be prevented by encouraging breastfeeding, properly washing hands with soap multiple times a day, provide immediate medical attention to diseased children by means of antibiotics, and oxygen therapy.

World Pneumonia Day:

World Pneumonia Day was established by the Global Coalition against Child Pneumonia in 2009. In 2009, pneumonia killed approx 1.2 million children each year. In 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children`s Fund is a United Nations agency (UNICEF) released the Integrated Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Pneumonia and Diarrhoea. The plan sets a target of less than three child pneumonia deaths per 1000 live births in every country by 2025.

The Global Coalition against Child Pneumonia is a network of government, non-government, international, community-based organizations, research and academic institutions, foundations, and individuals.

UK observed the 101st Armistice Day on 11 November:

The UK observed the 101st Armistice Day since World War One. The day is to commemorate those who died in conflict. It is held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.


The Royal British Legion called on the nation to put busy lives on pause, set aside differences, and remember those who risked their lives. Politicians marked the day by offering pledges to improve the lives of UK service personnel and their families. A remembrance service was held at the National War Memorial Cenotaph in Cardiff`s Cathays Park. The tradition of a two-minute silence to remember the dead began exactly a year after the end of World War One.
