About the event:
The event comprised display of total 200 original prints created by Indian and international artists. Total 988 entries at the national level were received of which 127 were chosen for display.

2. Rafael Nadal Win 11th Monte Carlo Masters Title.

sked to describe his emotions after claiming his 11th Monte Carlo title, Rafael Nadal grinned and replied that the montage of his previous victories played during the presentation ceremony had made him feel old. But it is his rivals who really deserve our sympathy.

Thirteen years after defeating Guillermo Coria to lift his first title here, Nadal is more dominant on this surface than ever. He was hardly stretched by Kei Nishikori in Sunday’s final, landing a 6-3, 6-2 victory in 1hr 33min. The Spaniard has now won his last 36 sets on clay, dating back to Rome last year. Not one of them was closer than 6-4. “This means a lot,” said Nadal, “especially because it is the first tournament in the year that I finished.”

That surprising statistic includes his retirement from the Australian Open with a hip problem, and his decision to skip Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami. In November, he also abandoned his appearances in Paris and London midway through. Physically, hard courts remain an issue for Nadal’s cranky knees – and the same is true of grass. Once his soles touch the red clay, though, everything seems to slot into place. He has moved superbly in Monte Carlo, overwhelming his opponents – most notably world No 7 Dominic Thiem in a one-sided quarter-final – with his physicality.

“Of course, the best match of the week was against Dominic,” said Nadal. “But I improved from yesterday [when he struggled slightly for consistency but was still too strong for world No 5 Grigor Dimitrov].”

Nishikori’s runner-up spot offered encouragement to a man who was appearing in only his fourth Tour-level event since August. But Nishikori says he is still recovering from the wrist-tendon injury he suffered last summer. “I have to take care every week,” he said.

A jury on Monday awarded the honor to Mahmoud Abu Zeid, known as Shawkan, who has been in jail since he was arrested in Cairo in August 2013 for covering a demonstration at Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square.

Egypt`s Foreign Ministry strongly warned UNESCO against the move Sunday, saying that Shawkan faces terror-related charges.

The U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detentions says Shawkan`s arrest is arbitrary and his continued detention infringes his human rights.

5. BCCL Chairman Indu Jain Gets Lifetime Contribution To Media Award.

Indu Jain, chairman of Bennett, Coleman & Co, India’s largest media house, which publishes newspapers and magazines, including The Times of India, on Wednesday said that it was important to ensure that government schemes were effectively implemented for allround development of India’s economy. She said this while receiving the All India Management Association’s (AIMA’s) annual award for lifetime contribution to media.

AIMA, which recognises achievers who have made a fundamental difference to society through its annual Managing India Awards, conferred on Jain the award for managing the Times Group, apart from establishing the Times Foundation, an institution working towards social causes.

Jain, who also received the Padma Bhushan in 2016, said that the Times Foundation had been doing a lot of work towards implementation of government schemes. A philanthropist, she launched the Times Foundation in 2000 to run community services, research foundation, and relief funds.

“Our latest initiative ‘National Citizens Forum’ consists of civil servants, politicians, corporates, and other important members of society. This group will work along with the government and remove any policy hurdles that slow down the process and will ensure the success of the scheme,” she said.

6. Daniel Ricciardo Wins Chinese Grand Prix 2018

The Chinese Grand Prix winner`s contract is up at the end of the 2018 F1 season, and he is an obvious candidate for both Ferrari and Mercedes if either chooses to replace one of its current drivers.

While Red Bull`s speed and strategic brilliance to help Ricciardo win at China on Sunday will have boosted its chances of retaining him for next year, Ricciardo says things are not yet so clear cut.

Speaking in an appearance on `The Project` on Australia`s Channel 10 on Tuesday, Ricciardo was clear that he wanted to see more potential from Red Bull.

"I definitely want to be with the best car," he said.

"I think the weekend proved that if I`ve got the opportunity to win I can pull it off. I can handle that pressure and that intensity. If we can win a few more with Red Bull now then that looks very attractive. If not, then I guess there are probably other options."

Pushed on whether he would view Red Bull as not good enough if it did not lift its game, Ricciardo replied: "Yeah. I said it from the start. The win helps, but if we were finishing sixth every race this year then that is not the most attractive option to me."

Red Bull boss Christian Horner said after the Chinese GP that it was up to his team to provide a winning car if it wanted to keep Ricciardo. But he cheekily suggested that his driver should also consider factors such as team atmosphere, which he suggests may not be as good at other outfits.

He cited Ferrari`s apparent decision to compromise Kimi Raikkonen`s Chinese GP strategy to assist his team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

"If you look at Kimi`s race, I didn`t understand that strategy," said Horner.

"I think Daniel`s happy in the environment. If we can provide a car like we did [in China], why would he want to be anywhere else?"

Ricciardo`s success in China has brought him to within 17 points of world championship leader Vettel, but he reckons it is "too early" to claim any confidence about a title challenge after just one win.

"We need to win regularly to kind of show that," he said.

"But if we come out and win again in two weeks in Baku then I will probably say yes."

Awards Current Affairs April 2nd Week 2018

1. Sebastian Vettel won Bahrain Grand Prix.

Ordinarily making the podium from ninth on the grid would be a result eagerly accepted but for Lewis Hamilton there was an air of disappointment in doing so at the Bahrain Grand Prix after what had looked for a time like a comeback drive that might have returned a remarkable Mercedes one-two. The ambition was there but for Hamilton and his team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who was second, their hopes were dashed by a bold Ferrari strategy call and a remarkable piece of driving by the winner, Sebastian Vettel.

Bahrain Grand Prix: Vettel pips Bottas after Raikkonen runs over mechanic`s leg - as it happened

Mercedes made their play in the form of opting to put both their drivers on one-stop strategies, when Ferrari were looking to bring Vettel home from pole with a two-stopper. A mid-race switch to match Mercedes meant Vettel had to make his softer tyres last 39 laps to the flag, with a life span predicted by Pirelli of only 30. Had he had to pit again both Hamilton and Bottas would have passed him. By the end his grip was gone but he kept it on the island with exemplary control, holding off Bottas’s late charge and thwarting Mercedes’ carefully engineered plans.

After a five-place grid penalty damage limitation was Hamilton’s goal and he was happy to have taken the 15 points but his disappointment reflects that Vettel now has two wins from two races this season and a 17-point lead over the British driver in the world title fight. Equally, Ferrari have shown that their race pace is strong.

Mercedes have been insistent that their rivals were a real threat and the Scuderia’s performance at the Sakhir circuit suggests that once again this season is going to be a tight fight at the front.

2. CWG 2018: Weightlifter Punam Yadav Won 5th Gold For India.
The gold rush for India continued in weightlifting as Punam Yadav added a fifth to the tally with a top finish in the 69kg category of the 21st Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Yadav, a bronze-medallist from the 2014 Glasgow edition, lifted 222kg (110kg+122kg) to claim gold ahead of England`s Sarah Davies, who finshed with 217kg (95kg+122kg).

The Englishwoman went for a 128kg lift in her final clean and jerk attempt in pursuit of gold but could not complete it and dropped the bar.

Yadav had claimed a silver at last year`s Commonwealth Championships last year, her first event after making the jump from 63kg to 69kg category.

The bronze medal was won by Fiji`s Apolonia Vaivai with an effort of 216kg (100kg+116kg).

Earlier Mirabai Chanu (48kg), Sanjita Chanu (53kg), Sathish Sivalingam (77kg) and Venkat Rahul Ragala (85kg) had claimed gold medals in the ongoing edition.

3. CWG 2018 : Indian Women`s Table Tennis Team won Gold.
It was mother of all upsets as the Singapore women’s team had never lost in the Commonwealth Games since the sport was inducted way back in 2002.
Manika Batra inspired India to a historic gold medal with her stunning singles victories, fashioning an unthinkable 3-1 victory over four-time gold medallists Singapore in the final of the women’s team event at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

World No. 58 Batra first scored the biggest of her career by humbling world number four and multiple Olympic medallist Feng Tianwei 3-2 before brushing aside 100th-ranked Yihan Zhou 3-0 to engineer a sensational win over the mighty Singapore side.

It was mother of all upsets as prior to this final, the Singapore women’s team had never lost in the Commonwealth Games since the sport was inducted in the program way back in 2002.

4. Anushka Sharma to get Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award.
Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma will soon be awarded with the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award for her successful movies as a producer. The award will be given by an organisation called Dadasaheb Phalke Foundation, a Mumbai-based organisation, which is different from the Government of India instituted Dadasaheb Phalke Award, awarded during National Awards ceremony held annually in New Delhi. The prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest cinematic honour.

Anushka’s work has been widely appreciated for experimenting with new stories and ideas as a film producer. Their company Clean Slate Films, made with her brother Karnesh Sharma, began their production journey with the hugely successful NH10.

At the age of 25, when she was at the peak of her career as a superstar, she became the youngest producer ever with a commitment to quality and desire to make entertaining cinema that pushed the content envelope.

Given that three home productions of Clean Slate Films have won applause from critics and movie buffs as well as become success stories, the Dadasaheb Phalke Foundation has decided to honour her contribution.

According to a report in Huffington Post, the foundation has been awarding artists for the last couple of years. In 2016, some of the recipients of awards were Manoj Bajpayee and Madhur Bhandarkar. Huma Qureshi and Shah Rukh Khan have also been awarded in the past.

Meanwhile, Anushka along with her brother Karnesh have also empowered young talent by giving them big-ticket breaks in the industry as directors, musicians, composers, technicians, etc by backing and believing raw talent.

Their first three productions: NH 10, Phillauri and Pari showed their maturity in dabbling with three different genres - thriller, romance and horror with a distinct and differential content pitch for audiences.

5. CWG 2018: Indian Men`s Table Tennis Team Wins Gold.

The Indian men’s table tennis team comfortably trounced Nigeria for the gold medal by winning 3-0 in the final. There were moments when Nigeria briefly threatened to swing the momentum away from India, but the Indian paddlers maintained their composure to wrap up the match. It was only yesterday when India’s women’s team won their first-ever gold in the Commonwealth Games. The men emulated the women with a emphatic win today. Earlier in the semifinals, India got the better of Singapore after they came back twice from behind to win the contest 3-2. Sharath Kamal winning both his matches, including the pivotal last match, made the difference in the end.

6. CWG 2018: India Win Badminton Team Gold For first time In CWG History
India`s mixed badminton team put up a commanding show to clinch its maiden gold medal, defeating three-time defending champions Malaysia 3-1 in the final of the event at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) here on Monday.

Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal and the mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa all won a match each to guide India power past Lee Chong Wei-spearheaded Malaysia which was winning gold since the 2006 CWG.

India`s gold medal match began on a strong note, with Satwik and Ashwini defeating Liu Ying Goh and Peng Soon Chan 21-14, 15-21, 21-15 in an hour and five minutes to make it 1-0. It was a crucial win considering Malaysia possess strong doubles pairs.

World No.2 Srikanth shone bright with a 21-17, 21-14 win over veteran Chong Wei in 43 minutes to hand India a 2-0 lead.

It was Srikanth`s first win in five matches against the world No.6 Malaysian, who has grabbed runners-up medals three times each in the Olympics and the World Championships.

India`s men`s doubles contest, the pair of Satwik and Chirag Shetty lost to Olympic silver medal-winning pair of V. Shem Goh and Tan Wee Kiong 15-21, 20-22 in 38 minutes as Malaysia kept the tie alive.

In the fourth match, world No.12 Saina Nehwal brought her experience to the fore as she got past world No.29 Soniia Cheah 21-11, 19-21, 21-9 in an hour and five minutes. The win sealed the issue for India, which failed to return with a medal in this category from the 2014 Glasgow CWG.

7. CWG 2018: Heena Sidhu Wins Gold In 25m Pistol Event.
Indian shooter Heena Sidhu won gold in the women`s 25 metre Pistol event at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG). Amit has now ensured a medal for India as those in the last fourth stage are assured of a place on the podium. Indian shooters Chain Singh and Gagan Narang failed to ensure any medals in the men`s 50m Rifle Prone event at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG). Chain finished fourth with a score of 204.8 points in the final round. Gagan was second from bottom in the eight-man final with 142.3. David Phelps of Wales won the gold medal with a new CWG record of 248.8. Neil Stirton of Scotland took silver with 247.7 while England`s Kenneth Parr got the bronze with 226.6. Earlier, Gagan finished the qualifying round in the third position with 617 points. Chain was in sixth place, having scored a total of 614.2. James Daly of Australia topped the standings in the qualification stage with 620.5 points. Ryan Taylor of New Zealand was second with 619.4. Gagan was consistent throughout the qualification round, starting off with 102.5 before shooting a superb 104.8 in his second attempt. India had an eventful fifth day at the Commonwealth Games winning seven medals in total including three gold medals. With more shooting events on Day 6, the Indian contingent would certainly be focussing on more golden success
