U.S. Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrated On 11 October:

Indigenous Peoples Day was declared by US President Joe Biden on October 11th.

Highlights:

♦ The purpose of the day was to honour the strength and resilience of indigenous peoples who have lived in the United States for thousands of years, as well as the positive impact they have had on American society.
♦ Several states had previously adopted this and abandoned Columbus Day celebrations.
♦ This day was replaced by time as Columbus Day, which commemorates the explorer who sailed from Spain in 1492 with a crew aboard three ships, the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.
♦ The first state to officially recognise this day was "South Dakota," which declared it Native Americans` Day in 1990.
♦ On June 21, 1996, Canada declared this day "National Indigenous Peoples` Day."
