MoU Between India and Japan on Training of Skilled Workers:

On February 12, 2021, in Rajya Sabha`s written reply, Raj Kumar Singh, Minister of State for Technological Growth and Entrepreneurship, reported that the Government of India and the Government of Japan had signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for the training of skilled workers in January 2021.
 
Highlights:
♦ The fundamental structure of the relationship was signed by the Ministry of Commerce. The agreement was signed in order to allow normal operation of the "designated skilled worker" scheme.
♦ Skilled Indian workers from 14 industries have been listed to increase job opportunities in Japan, according to the regulations of the Japanese Ministry of Commerce.
♦ These qualified Indian workers are selected from the following sectors: building cleaning, treatment, manufacturing of industrial machinery, manufacturing of materials, construction, electrical and electronic information industries, automotive repair, industry related to shipbuilding and shipbuilding, aviation, agriculture, accommodation, manufacturing of food and beverages, fisheries and food service industries.
♦ In November 2016, a 10-year "Manufacturing Skills Transfer Promotion Program" memorandum of cooperation was signed by India`s Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Japan`s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (MoC).
♦ India-based Japanese Industry has introduced 13 Japanese Institute of Manufacturing (JIM) and 5 Japanese Chartered Courses with regard to production line transition (JEC).
♦ In addition, MSDE signed a MoC with the Ministry of Justice of India, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan in October 2017, and invited Indian candidates to Japan under the Technical Internal Training Programme (TITP).
♦ The signing of this MoC on TITP aims to broaden bilateral skills development cooperation between India and Japan. By sending and accepting technical interns from India to Japan, it seeks to shift the skills ecosystem in India.
♦ Under TITP`s leadership, India sent 220 candidates to Japan in the areas of construction, agriculture, manufacturing and healthcare.
