1) Saina Nehwal lost World No. 1 ranking to Carolina Marin.

  •  Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal lost her World No.1 ranking to World champion Carolina Marin of Spain after making early exists from Japan Open and Denmark Open. 
  •  According to the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, Nehwal dropped to No. 2 spot in women’s singles behind Marin in women`s singles.
  •  Meanwhile, two-time World Championship bronze medallist PV Sindhu maintained her position at world number 13 after reaching her maiden Super Series final at Denmark Open.
 
2) First World Indigenous Games began in Brazil.
  •  First World Indigenous Games started in the northern Brazilian city of Palmas, Brazil.
  •  The games are a multi-sport event involving indigenous athletes has around 2000 athletes participating from many indigenous ethnic groups and 30 countries like Ethiopia, Mongolia, Brazil, Australia, Russia, the Philippines and New Zealand.
  •  Sports included in the games are archery, spear tossing, canoeing and a race through the forest.
3) Lahiri wins Asian Tour Golfer of the month award.
  •  As part of Hilton Worldwide’s newest partnership with the region’s Tour, the Asian Tour Hilton Golfer of the Month award aims to recognise outstanding efforts of Asian Tour members both at home and abroad.
  •  Lahiri won the award ahead of Thai duo Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Prayad Marksaeng. The three players were nominated by a selection panel before going into a voting process.
  •  Lahiri was voted as the winner based on his stellar performance from June to September, with subsequent awards based on monthly achievements as the Asian Tour is now back in full swing.
  •  Lahiri also finished joint fifth in the PGA Championship for India’s best performance in a Major in August and became the first from the country to earn a spot with the Presidents Cup’s International Team.

 

4) Himachal Pradesh to host India’s first Paragliding World Cup.

  •  India’s first Paragliding World Cup has begun at Bir Billing near Baijnath town in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The official mascot of this World Cup is Snow leopard.
  •  It is for the first time that Paragliding World Cup is being organised in a South Asian country. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju flagged off the event.
  •  In this one week competition, more than 130 registered pilots including 14 women pilots from 35 countries would take part. Indian side is represented by 8 flyers and 6 among them are from the Himachal Pradesh.
 
5) Abhishek Verma became first Indian to win Silver Medal in Archery World Cup Final.
  •  Indian archer Abhishek Verma created history by became the first ever Indian to bag Archery World Cup Final medal.
  •  He won the silver medal in the Archery World Cup Final in the compound section held in Mexico City.
Achievements of Abhishek verma:
  1.  In 2014, Verma bagged the gold medal in the men`s compound archery team event along with Rajat Chauhan and Sandeep Kumar, and the silver medal in the men`s individual compound event at the Asian Games held at Incheon, South Korea. 
  2.  He also won a gold medal in the compound men`s individual section on 15 August 2015 in the third leg of Archery World Cup held in Wroclaw, Poland.
6) South Africa clinched 1st ever bilateral ODI series in India.
  • South Africa won first ever bilateral ODI series on Indian soil by winning five-match One Day International (ODI) series 3-2.
  •  In the fifth and final match played at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, South Africa defeated India by 214 runs, which was India’s second biggest ODI loss in terms of runs.
  •  Hashim Amla, who made 23 in this match, broke Virat Kohli`s record and became the fastest player to reach 6000 ODI runs.
  •  The two boards of cricket namely BCCI and Cricket South Africa 2015 agreed that all future bilateral series between India and South Africa, including South Africa`s forthcoming tour of India, will be called the Mahatma Gandhi-Nelson Mandela series.

7) Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton won 2015 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix title.
  •  Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton won the 2015 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix title. It was the third title for Hamilton at the Circuit of the Americas in Elroy, Texas of the USA.
  •  His team-mate Nico Rosberg of Germany stood at the second position, Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel (Germany) was at the third.
  •  Force India driver Sergio Perez (Mexico) was the fifth person to complete the race.
  •  With this win, he also won the 2015 World Drivers` Championship (WDC). It was the third title for Hamilton as he won the WDCs in 2008 and 2014.
8) Deepika Kumari won silver medal in Archery World Cup Final.
  • Indian archer Deepika Kumari bagged the silver medal in the Archery World Cup held in Mexico City.
  •  In the final she lost to South Korea’s Chou Misun.
  • Achievements of Deepika Kumari:
  •  Kumari clinched a gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth games in the women`s individual recurve event. She also won a gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth games in the women`s team recurve event along with Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi.
  •  In May 2012, she won her first World Cup individual stage recurve gold medal at Antalya, Turkey.
 
9) Emily Kristine Pedersen of Denmark won Hero Women’s Indian Open 2015.
  •  Emily Kristine Pedersen won the Hero Women’s Indian Open 2015 at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, Haryana. It was her maiden Tour title.
  •  She beat the trio of Cheyenne Woods, Becky Morgan and Malene Jorgensen, who tied for the second position, to pocket the winner’s cheque of 60000 US dollars.
  •  While amateur Aditi Ashok was the best Indian performer, who tied at the 13th position, Vani Kapoor, finished tied 20th, was adjudged as the best Indian professional at the tournament.
10) J&K to host South Asian Rugby 7’S Championship in 2016.
  • Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Youth Services and Sports Molvi Imran Raza Ansari announced that Kashmir Valley will host South Asian Rugby 7’S Championship in 2016. 
  •  This decision was made during the 131st Standing Committee meeting of J-K State Sports Council, which was chaired by Ansari.
  •  As per the decision, the championship will be held at Bakhshi Stadium from 18 June to 20 June 2016.
  •  The Championship will be participated by eight teams consisting of 180 participants from various countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and India.
11) ICC released Test, ODI, T20I and Women’s Ranking.
  •  The International Cricket Council (ICC) launched the official ICC men’s Team Rankings from Test, One Day International (ODI) and T20I cricket.
  •  South Africa with 125 rating was placed at the top position in the Test ranking list; while Australia topped the ODI list with 127 ratings. Sri Lanka with 126 points topped the list of T20I rankings.
  •  The ICC on 1 October 2015 launched the official ICC Women’s Team Rankings, which incorporated results in all three formats of the game into one rankings system. The innovative new system treated results from Test, ODI and T20I cricket equally.
  •  Australian women team with 134 ratings topped in the ICC Women’s Rankings, which was released for the second time ever.
