India to run special training programme for Maldivian civil servants:

  • India will conduct a two-week special training programme for Maldivian civil servants in Delhi and Mussoorie.
  • The training is part of a bilateral MoU on Training and Capacity Building Programme between the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) and the Maldives Civil Service Commission (CSC),
  • A 32-member delegation from Maldives arrived at the NCGG campus in the hill station of Mussoorie.
  • The inaugural session of the programme would be chaired by K V Eapen, the secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG); Fatimath Amira, member Civil Services Commission; and V Srinivas, additional secretary DARPG, it said.
  • The sessions on public policy and governance, ethics and accountability and redressal of public grievances, motivation, innovation, sustainable development goals, promoting tourism, regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region, India-Maldives relations along with visits to the Unique Identification Authority, Passport Sewa Kendra and Election Commission of India.
  • Senior policy makers, including Director Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration Sanjeev Chopra, would address the participants in the training programme, the statement said.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to the Maldives in June emphasised India`s `Neighbourhood First` policy and assured India`s full support to the Indian Ocean archipelago in realising its aspirations for broad based socio-economic development and strengthening of democratic and independent institutions.
  • One of the MoUs envisaged capacity building activities for 1,000 Civil Servants of Maldives at the National Centre for Good Governance over the next five years, it said.
  • Under the agreement, 10 training programmes will be conducted from September 2019 to December 2020, according to the statement.India is the largest development partner for capacity building of Maldivian Civil Servants. A unique feature of the special training programme is that 70 per cent of the delegates are women officials. 
  • Union minister Jitendra Singh conveyed his wishes for the successful conduct of the training programme.

Indian Government inks allotment pact with West Bengal Power Development Corp for a coal block:

  • The coal ministry inked an agreement with West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd for allotment of Deocha Pachami Dewanganj-Harinsingha coal block.
  • The project is expected to address the immediate and future coal and power requirements of the region.
  • The central government entered into an allotment agreement with the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) regarding the Deocha Pachami Dewanganj-Harinsingha coal block
  • The provisions of Coal Block Allocation Rules, 2017, made under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulations) Act, 1957, the WBPDCL has been allocated the the coal block located in West Bengal containing an area of 12.28 sq km with estimated reserves of 2102 million tonnes (MT) for power generation.
  • The project is to generate both direct and indirect employment in West Bengal considerably and also contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. 
  • The project envisages to address the immediate as well as the forthcoming coal and power requirements of the region.

  • The allotment agreement was signed by Coal Deputy Secretary Ram Shiromani Saroj and WBPDCL Director (Regulatory Affairs) Amit Bhattacharyya, in presence of Coal Secretary Sumanta Chadhuri and WBPDCL Chairman/Managing Director P B Salim. 

Union Government launches steel import monitoring system:

  • The union government launched a steel import monitoring system (SIMS) to provide advance information about steel imports to various stakeholders including producers and importers to have effective policy interventions.
  • Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and his junior colleague Hardeep Singh Puri launched the system developed in consultation with Ministry of Steel on the pattern of US Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) system.
  • The Importers of specified steel products will register in advance on the web portal of SIMS providing the necessary information. The registration will be online and automatic with no human intervention.
  • The importer can apply for registration not earlier than 60th day and not later than 15th day before the expected date of arrival of import consignment. The automatic registration number granted will remain valid for 75 days.
  • The information about the steel imports provided by importers on the SIMS will be monitored by the Steel Ministry.
  • SIMS will require importers to submit advance information in an online system for import of 284 steel tariff lines at 8-digit HS code in order to obtain an automatic registration number by paying a prescribed registration fee.

Delhi Cabinet approves to pay fees for class 10 and 12 students:

The Delhi Cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approved the state government`s proposal to pay the CBSE examination fees for class 10 and 12 students of its schools. The move will benefit around 3.14 lakh students of the government schools from 2019-20. The estimated cost for the project is Rs.57 crore. The State government will pay the amount directly to the CBSE and the students will not have to take any burden or wait for reimbursements. 

Fee hike:

In August, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announce a fee hike for class 10 and 12. As per the notification, the fees for general category students for classes 10 and 12 was increased from Rs.750 to Rs.1,500 for five subjects. For the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST), the fee has been increased from Rs.375 to Rs.1,200 for five subjects.

Transport Ministry issues SOP for transport-related information presented in e-form:

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued detailed Standard Operating Procedure-SOP for acceptance of Driving License, Registration Certificate and other transport related information presented in electronic form.

According to the amended Central Motor Vehicles Rules, carrying hard copy of relevant documents is not necessary now as they can be carried in electronic form.

They are available on DigiLocker or mParivahan app to be legally recognized at par with the original documents.

The enforcement agencies can simultaneously access these details from eChallan app.
