 1. J&K Government unveils Healthcare Investment Policy-2019

 
Jammu and Kashmir Government unveiled Healthcare Investment Policy-2019. 
This follows the State Administrative Council decision taken in this regard on March 08, 2019. 
As per the new Health Care Investment Policy, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir will promote and encourage the private parties and entrepreneurs for setting up healthcare infrastructure in the state by providing subsidies and incentives. 
Accordingly, 30% subsidy on capital investment will be provided for setting up of multi-speciality Hospitals, Super Specialty Hospitals, Medical Colleges, Nursing Colleges and Paramedical Colleges. 
The State Government, as per the policy, may declare a well-defined geographical area having potential and being conducive for development as Medical City to promote medical tourism in the State.
 
2. Goa celebrates its statehood day
 
Goa celebrates its statehood day . It was on this day in 1987 Goa became the 25th state of the Indian Union.
Before this, Goa, along with Daman and Diu, was a union territory.
Achieving statehood was a long and cherished dream of the people of Goa, which paved the way to providing a distinct identity to the state.
 
3. Sri Lanka signs tripartite agreement with India and Japan
 
Sri Lanka has signed a tripartite agreement with India and Japan for development of eastern terminal of Colombo port. The Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was signed in Colombo by Sri Lankan ports minister Sagala Ratnayake, Indian high commissioner to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu and a Japanese representative. 
As per the agreement, Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA) will hold 51 per cent majority stake in the port development while Japan and India will have combined stake of 49 per cent. 
The three governments have decided to work out details at joint working group meetings and advance their cooperation towards early commencement of work and operation of the terminal. 
SLPA said the joint project reflects the longstanding goodwill and cooperation among the three countries. It said Sri Lanka, Japan and India will work together for further development of the Colombo Port and contribute to further regional prosperity and stability of global trading networks.  
The deal is significant as over 70% of India’s transhipment business is handled at Colombo ports. One of the terminals is controlled by Chinese company and there was a long-pending proposal to handover the development of Eastern terminal to an Indian company. The deal is part of Memorandum of economic cooperation signed between India and Sri Lanka in 2017.
 
4. Orchha town of Madhya Pradesh 
 
The Orchha town of Madhya Pradesh has been included in tentative list of the World Heritage Sites of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
It is Situated on the banks of the river Betwa, in Niwari district of Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh.
Significance: The town is celebrated for its rich and ancient architecture of Chaturbhuj Temple, Orchha Fort Complex, and Raja Mahal among others. It is famous for its two elevated minarets – Saavan and Bhadon; and four palaces – Jahangir Palace, Rai Praveen Mahal, Raja Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal.
The site houses ‘Sri Ram Raja Mandir’. It is the only place in India where Lord Ram is worshipped as a King, not as a deity, with this dedicated temple in his name.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site is a place that is listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as of special cultural or physical significance. The list is maintained by the international World Heritage Programme administered by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, composed of 21 UNESCO member states which are elected by the General Assembly. Each World Heritage Site remains part of the legal territory of the state wherein the site is located and UNESCO considers it in the interest of the international community to preserve each site.
 
5. Four Judges elevated to Supreme Court
 
The Centre has cleared four names recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for elevation as judges of the apex court.
The four appointed judges are Justice Aniruddha Bose, Justice A S Bopanna, Justice B R Gavai and Justice Surya Kant.
Law Ministry has issued the notification after President Ram Nath Kovind signed their warrants of appointment.
Supreme Court will reach its full sanctioned strength of 31 judges after the appointment of four new judges. 
As of now, the apex court is functioning with 27 judges including the Chief Justice. 
 
6. Telangana city’s `Antim Yatra Aakhri Safar` offers last rites for poor at Rs 1
 
Seeking to ensure a decent funeral for the poor, the civic body in Karimnagar city of Telangana will launch a scheme next month under which last rites can be performed for just one rupee.
The `Antim Yatra Aakhri Safar` would be launched on June 15 and Rs 1.10 crore had already been allotted for the initiative, which would take care of the funeral as per the religious customs of the deceased.
The middle and low-income group people can avail the facility by paying only Rs 1 as charges for cremation.
The scheme will be extended to all, irrespective of caste and religion.
Under the scheme, the municipal corporation of the town will provide wood, pieces of sandalwood and kerosene to the family of the deceased for performing the last rites.
Meals for around 50 people will also be provided on the day of performing the customary rituals at the rate of Rs 5 per person. Necessary arrangements will also be made for those who want to bury the bodies.
