|Distance learning at KU revamped
Warangal,Jan 22 The School of Distance Learning & Continuing Education (SDLCE) of Kakatiya University is planning to offer nine short-term job oriented courses to engage the unemployed youth.
It will soon offer diploma courses in Drawing and Computer Applications and certificate courses in drawing/beautician work/desktop publishing/web designing/Java programming/animation and net programming.
Speaking to The Hindu , SDLCE director D. Rajendra Prasad said that they had introduced BSc. (Maths, Statistics, Computer Science), Master of Social Work, MSc. (Statistics), MBA and MSc. (Computer Science) recently.
“We want to introduce short term courses which earn employment immediately after completion of the course. It is the need of the hour as many youth after graduation look for employment but remain idle due to lack of technical qualification,” he explained.
The SDLCE was also contemplating to introduce more vocational courses and was also consulting the Polytechnic College. “We are also talking to various organisations that require human resource like BSNL. We will design a course for youth who will be employed by the BSNL after the course,” he said.
The SDLCE presently offers 43 courses and serves more than 50,000 students spread across the globe.
Mr. Rajendra Prasad, who took over as the director recently, said he was focusing more on strengthening the ‘students support services by bringing in new initiatives like total computerisation of records, delivering certificates to the door step of students after completion of course, digitisation of records right from application stage and introduction of IVRS wherein students can know their marks directly and introduction of SMSes to inform students about the examination schedule and contact classes.
“We are reorienting our staff to bring in more transparency and accountability. From now onwards they will be more responsible and gentle while serving the students,” Mr Prasad said.
