About 90 per cent students appeared for the pre-PhD course work examination that was conducted by the Osmania University on Fri- day. Of1,700 registered candidates in all faculties, 1,520 appeared for the exam.
OU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Ramachandram, Registrar Prof. Ch Gopal Reddy, OSD Prof. T Krishna Rao and senior officials visited the exam venues while the in- vigilators and squad members maintained a tight vigil.
While there was an element of uncertainty due to the boycott call given by the student organizations protesting against the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly, students arrived early for the examination, the varsity in a release said, adding that in the pre-lunch session a section of students hers had urged the authorities to postpone the examination. The pre-Phd exam is mandatory for students before they submit their doctoral thesis.
