Telangana Government's Department of School Education has announced summer vacation from Thursday for all schools - Government and Private in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions throughout the State.

The Commissioner & Director of School Education in an official release has informed that the decision was taken after receiving advisories from the Disaster Management department, feedback from the District Collectors and also demand from the parents.

Relief from heat is expected earlier than what was forecast by weathermen. Thunderstorm activity was witnessed on Wednesday which brought down temperature in southern parts of the State and more rain is expected during the next 24 hours. Earlier, forecast for thunderstorm activity suggested rainfall over the weekend due to a weather system that promised relief over the northern and peninsular India. Temperature had consistently remained over 41 degree Celsius in State on most days of this week. On Wednesday, Hyderabad recorded 42 degree Celsius while Adilabad recorded a maximum at 44.1 degree Celsius. Rainfall is expected to lower temperature by at least a degree.

“Southern parts of the State already had some relief on Wednesday while other places could see thunderstorm activity during the next 24 hours,” said Y.K. Reddy, Director-in-charge, of India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad.

Soaring temperatures in the State this week have been linked to at least six deaths which are being investigated.
