The silence on the part of the state government with regard to the National-Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to postgraduate medical courses has been causing mental agony to thousands of PG medical aspirants in AP.
The first-ever Neet is just about 15 days away, but students still don’t know whether to take the test or not, whether the test will be held in Andhra Pradesh and whether they will be allowed to take the test.
The Medical Council of India decided to conduct Neet from the coming academic year. The online test is scheduled between November 23 to December 5. The state government, meanwhile, approached the AP High Court, pointing out that Article 371 (D) of the Constitution gives special status to AP for admission to professional courses. The HC stayed Neet in the state. However, a similar case is pending in the Supreme Court, which is expected to hear it later this month. The SC recently transferred to itself 23 cases from various HC relating to petitions challenging Neet.
The AP government thus cannot take a decision.
