GATE 2012 results were declared today morning for the exam held on 12th February.
A total of 7,77,134 candidates registered for GATE 2012 out of which 6,86,614 candidates appeared for the exam.
The number of candidates qualifying for GATE were as follows:

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level examination conducted in eight zones across the country and administered jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). The exam is conducted in the interest of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), and Government of India.
Students need to qualify the GATE in order to seek admission to post graduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country. Candidates with a valid GATE score and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture or Master's degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications are eligible for admission to Master's degree programmes in Engineering/Technology/Architecture or Doctoral programmes in related fields.
For the benefit of other various institutions, IIT Delhi has entered into MoU with these institutions for sharing the GATE Score with them on payment basis. GATE 2012 score will also be applicable to various other institutions and organisations. Some of them include corporation firms like BHEL, NTPC, DELL, etc.
These institutions consider GATE score for internship, fellowship and trainees selection. Moreover, it is also the minimum requirement to apply for various fellowships awarded by many Government organisations.
GATE Score is valid for two years from the date of its announcement of results. The exam results have been declared today, 15th March 2012.
