Undergraduate Exchange Scholarships for Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2017

INTRODUCTION

The Embassy of the United States of America in Bosnia and Herzegovina is pleased to announce the academic year 2017-2018 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) competition for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The program provides a diverse group of emerging leaders from over 60 countries with a scholarship for one semester of non-degree, full-time academic study at a U.S. college or university, combined with community service, professional development workshops, and cultural enrichment activities.

The American Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina protects and promotes American interests and develops relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina through contacts with B&H government, business, labor, agriculture, media and education leaders.

COURSE AND ELIGIBILITY

  • The Global UGRAD program offers cultural/academic exchange through a non-degree program for a semester at a university in the U.S.
  • All disciplines are eligible to apply.
  • Global UGRAD does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, or disability. Students from non-elite or less-privileged backgrounds-from both rural and urban areas-are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to those who have had little or no prior experience in the United States or overseas. All academic fields of study are eligible. Per J-1 visa regulations, interested applicants in medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacology or other clinical fields of study, should note that direct patient care, including animal care, is not permitted, and therefore academic coursework and/or program activities at participating U.S. institutions may be limited. The Global UGRAD is open to anyone who is/has:
  • At least 18 years of age at the beginning of the Global UGRAD in the United States
  • A Bosnia and Herzegovina citizen qualified to hold a valid passport and currently residing in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Completed secondary education in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Enrolled full-time in good standing as an undergraduate at any accredited university, public or private, in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Completed their first year of undergraduate study prior to starting the Global UGRAD in the United States
  • Has at least one semester or equivalent term to complete at their home university at the conclusion of the Global UGRAD. The Global UGRAD program cannot be the final academic term of a students undergraduate study
  • A solid command of written and spoken English (finalists must take the TOEFL exam; English Language training for some finalists may be possible)
  • Able to begin studies in the United States in August 2017 or January 2018 (selected participants may not defer to a later date)
  • Eligible to receive and maintain the U.S. student exchange visa (J-1) required for the program
  • Cleared by a physician to participate in the program (finalists only)
  • Committed to returning directly to Bosnia and Herzegovina after the completion of the program for a minimum of two years.
Nationality: Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are eligible to apply.

CAREER PROSPECTS

How to Apply: Interested applicants must apply to the U.S. Embassy Sarajevo using the official Global UGRAD online application system. After national selection, final nominations are reviewed in the United States by the U.S. Department of States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The program selection process is highly competitive. Applicants are encouraged to submit a thorough application that illustrates qualifications, leadership potential, and preparedness for study in the United States. Successful candidates will be notified of their awards by spring 2017. The scholarship will cover international travel, tuition, room and board, accident/sickness insurance, a small monthly stipend, and funding for books
