INTRODUCTION

SVSGC - Scholarship 2014-15 The University Grants Commission invites Applications for Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Single Girl Child for research in Social Sciences of 300 slots for the block year 2014-15 from the girl students who are admitted in regular full time Ph.D program in Social Sciences in Universities/Institutes

COURSE AND ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility i) Any single girl child of her parents ii) Only girl child in the family without having any brother or the girl student who are twin daughters/fraternal daughter may also apply for scholarship under the aforesaid scheme iii) In a family if one son and one daughter is available then girl child will not be considered for scholarship under the scheme iv) The scheme is applicable to such a single girl child who has taken admission in regular, full -time Ph.D program in Social Sciences in any recognized University/Institute; admission to PhD Course in Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme Age: Girl students up to the age of 40 years for general and 45 years for the reserved category SC/ST/OBC and Physical handicapped at the time of admission in PhD courses are eligible Nature of Assistance available under the scheme The numbers of slots for scholarship are 300 every year on the basis of eligible application correct in all respects, received through online mode against the advertisement to be published in National Dailies as well as on the UGC website www.ugc.ac.in

Swami Vivekananda was one of the great social thinker and pioneer in social reforms in India. He was chief disciple of Saint Ramakrishna Paramhansa In a short life span of just 39 years, he introduced Vedanta and Yoga to the western world Keeping Swami Vivekanandas ideas of women education and to achieve and promote girls education, UGC has introduced Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Single Girl Child for research in Social Sciences with an aim to compensate direct costs of higher education especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their family Objective The objectives of the proposed scheme are: a) To support higher education of single girl child in Social Sciences b) To recognize the value of observance of small family norm c) To recognize the norm of single girl child in society d) To propagate the concept of single girl child norm e) Promoting single girls in the society

PAY PACKAGE

Amount of Scholarship a) Rs.8000/- p.m for first two years b) Rs.10000/- p.m for third and fourth year (Extendable for fifth year in exceptional circumstances) No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges etc Application Process: The guidelines of the scheme, detailed terms & conditions of the research grants, eligibility etc. may be seen by logging in the UGC Website www.ugc.ac.in Applications in the prescribed format may be submitted only through online mode latest by 30th November 2014 (non-extendable) by logging into website http://www.ugc.ac.in/svsgc The decision of the commission with regard to selection of candidates for the award of fellowship shall be final Applications submitted only through online mode shall be entertained and no application submitted in hard copy shall be entertained or considered for Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Single Girl Child in any circumstances whatsoever Record of the non-selected candidates shall not be kept beyond three months from the date of declaration of results Candidates desirous of leaving the studies mid-way without completing research degree will have to take prior approval from the UGC by submitting an application along with the justification through the concerned Universities/Institution Any candidate who discontinues the research without prior approval of the UGC will have to refund the whole amount through e-mode (RTGS/NEFT) directly to UGC account On receipt of Joining Report (Annexure-I) of the candidate together with required documents, the UGC office/authorized agency would release the first installment of the admissible grant to the concerned beneficiary Documents to be submitted a) The candidate is required to submit an application only through online mode b) Proof of admission in PhD degree course in a recognized Indian University covered under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act c) A certificate from the University/Institute where student has taken admission to Ph.D Course d) Proof of being single girl child - An affidavit on Rs.50/- Stamp paper from the student/parent duly attested by SDM/First Class Magistrate/Gazetted Officer (not below the rank of Tahsildar) copying the prescribed languages (Annexure II) e) Marksheet for Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate degree For more details - Candidates may keep visiting UGC website www.ugc.ac.in for further details The last date for submission of filled-in application form is 30th November 2014
