ADMISSION OF RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS

TATA INSTITUTE OF FUNDAMENTAL RESEARH NATIONAL CENTRE OF THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA FOR NUCLEAR SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS ADMISSION OF RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS

COURSE AND ELIGIBILITY

A good Masters degree in Mathematics. However, B.Sc degree holders of exceptional merit and students with Engineering degrees interested in pursuing Mathematics will also be considered. Students appearing for the relevant examination this year may also apply.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Final selection will be made on the basis of written test/interview to assess the aptitude for research. The admission will be initially for a period of one year during which introductory course on basic areas of mathematics will be given. The continuation of the research scholarships beyond one year will depend on the assessment of the students performance during the year. A second assessment will be made at the end of the second year, based on which the student may be offered a further extension of the scholarship at a possibly enhanced level. The research scholarship is tenable for a period upto five years. There are possibilities of research appointments at higher level for outstanding students after comletion of their Ph.Ds.

PAY PACKAGE

Application in the form of a resume giving the particulars listed below accompanied by attested copies of testimonials pertaining to the mathematical ability of the candidate from two teachers closely acquainted with the aptitude of the candidate and a recent passport size photograph should reach the Establishment Officer, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Homi Bhabha Road, Colaba, Mumbai-400005, not later than a date of March (1) Name. (2) Date and place of birth. () Address. (4) Nationality. (5) Academic qualifications with year of passing, division/class and names of institutions attended (Attested copies of mark-list should be enclosed). (6) Previous experience, if any, giving designation and the scale of pay, posts held, names and addresses of previous and present employers, number of years served and present emoluments, in chronological order. (7) Details of published research work, if any. Candidates called for interview will be paid a part of the to-and-fro railway fare by second class (sleeper class for travel beyond 500 kms.) and also a sum of Rs. 105 as halting allowance for the day on which he/she is interviewed. Undertaking services must apply through proper channel. Only candidates who are called for interview will be informed of the results and no correspondence of any kind will be entertained.
