IUPUI offers many scholarships for international students for 2012-2013

INTRODUCTION

IUPUI offers many scholarship opportunities for international students, All scholarships require full-time enrollment (12 credit hours or more per semester) in the fall and spring semesters. If you take the SAT or ACT examination more than once, the highest scores will be used for scholarship consideration. Funds provided by these scholarships do not cover intensive English as a Second Language study. Competitive scholarships: All competitive program recipients must begin studies in the fall semester as a beginning freshman. All applicants must apply for admission and for scholarship by November 15. Students selected for one of the competitive scholarships listed below may also be eligible to receive a portion of the admission-based scholarship for which they are eligible. Highly competitive scholarship programs are for exceptional incoming freshmen who have achieved outstanding performance in a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, excellent SAT or ACT scores (for applicants for whom English is not their native language, TOEFL results), and, as finalists, complete an interview as the final step in the process. (Note: students residing outside Indiana will be interviewed by phone.) Bepko Scholars and Fellows Program: requires extensive civic engagement endeavors in addition to the above criteria. The Scholarship provides: funding which covers the in-state portion of tuition, fees and books for four years of study, $2,500 for a study abroad experience, two years of on-campus housing, and up to $5,000 per year for four years of graduate or professional study at IUPUI. This program also provides academic and programming support to students throughout their undergraduate and post-graduate years. Plater International Scholars Program: assumes a 3.75 or higher GPA (or its recognized equivalent) on a 4.0 scale and an application essay in addition to the above criteria. Provides: $12,000 per year for four years of study, $2,500 for a study abroad experience, and a $2,500 housing stipend for living in International House during the freshman year. Recipients are strong incoming freshmen committed to combining academic excellence with global citizenship. Plater Scholars are involved in international programming both on and off-campus. Admission-based scholarships: Students may receive only one admission-based scholarship. A separate scholarship application is not required for admission-based scholarships. Application deadlines for scholarship consideration: February 1 for Fall (August) enrollment (May 1 for International Ambassador) October 1 for Spring (January) enrollment These scholarships are available to beginning freshmen who will pay non-resident fees at IUPUI. If you are eligible to pay tuition at the in-state rate, central for information on scholarship opportunities for students paying fees at resident rates. Students eligible for one of the above awards and who submit a housing application by April 1 and enroll in the Fall Semester are eligible for a one-time $2,500 Housing stipend. (Please see other side for details of each Admission-Based Scholarship Program) Chancellors Non-Resident Scholarship $12,000 annually for 4 years Students who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher, and have taken the SAT - scoring 1250 (total represents Critical Reading and Math scores only) or a 27 ACT composite score may be eligible for this excellent scholarship. Chancellors Scholars are automatically admitted to the IUPUI Honors College. The Honors College provides access to specialized advising, state-of-the-art facilities, and opportunities to conduct research and participate in leadership development. To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time, be an active participant in the Honors College and maintain a 3.3 GPA. Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships: it offers $10,000 annually for 4 years Students who are ranked first or second in their class in secondary school (class must have 25 or more students) may qualify for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and full-time enrollment Recipients of this scholarship who also meet the requirements for the Chancellors Non-Resident Scholarship will receive an additional $4,000 each of the four years of this award for a total award of $14,000 annually. students must maintain a 3.0 GPA. IUPUI Service Award: it offers $3,000 - 5,000 annually for 4 years Students who score 1050 or higher on the SAT (total represents Critical Reading and Math scores only; international students applying from non-English speaking countries must have a minimum SAT Math score of 530) or 23 on the ACT. Likely candidates are reviewed on an individual basis with particular attention paid to academic curriculum and standardized test scores. Recipients must volunteer for 20 hours of service at IUPUI events annually. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

COURSE AND ELIGIBILITY

International Ambassador Award: ELS Ambassador Award $3,500 annually for 4 years Eligibility: must be admitted as beginning freshmen by May 1st for the fall semester and submit one of the following: a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 80, a minimum SAT Critical Reading Score of 450, or an IELTS score of 6.0. The ELS Ambassador Award is based on successful completion of ELS Language Centers Level 112. Recipients must volunteer annually for 15 hours of service at IUPUI events that have an international theme. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Scholarships for Transfer Students (With a Postsecondary Study Record) To be considered for a transfer scholarship, submit your complete application for admission by November 1 for January admission, or April 1 for Fall admission.

PAY PACKAGE

Non-Resident Transfer Scholar Award: it offers $5,000 annually for 2 years Students who have a postsecondary study record at an officially recognized university with earned GPA of 3.3 or higher. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA. ELS Transfer Ambassador Award: it offers $3,500 annually for 2 years Students who successfully complete Level 112 at ELS Language Centers may be eligible for this award. Recipients must volunteer for 15 hours of service at IUPUI events annually. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
