Dr. Harsh Vardhan launches second phase of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna:

The second phase of `Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna` was initiated by Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on 14 October 2020. The second phase of Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna, virtually from Nirman Bhawan, was introduced for the underprivileged Thalassemic patients.
 
Aim:
The Program aims to provide patients who have a matched family donor with a one-time cure opportunity for haemoglobinopathies such as Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Disease.
 
Highlights:
♦ Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna” was launched in 2017 and it is funded by Coal India Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
♦ This is the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) programme that seeks to provide haemoglobinopathies such as Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Disease with a one-time cure opportunity.
♦ In India every year nearly 10-12,000 children are born with thalassemia major.
♦ The eligibility for the scheme - Patients whose yearly family income is Rs. 5 lakhs and or less .
♦ Dr. Harsh Vardhan congratulated all the doctors who, without medical fees, had successfully performed the transplantation.
♦ As of this year, the programme has been extended to include a total of 200 such patients with Aplastic Anaemia. Via consultation using the Ayushman Bharat- Health & Wellness Centres network, such cases can be avoided.
