Rajinikanth to be conferred the Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI award:

The Government is to confer the Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI award to the eminent film personality Shri S Rajinikanth. It was announced by the Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Prakash Javadekar, in New Delhi on 2 November 2019. The award recognizes his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, during the past several decades.

Rajinikanth:

Rajinikanth was born on 12 December 1950 in Karnataka. His original name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad. Initially, he worked as a bus conductor for Karnataka State Transport Corporation in Bangalore. During this period, he performed in plays. Then, Rajinikanthplayed a small role in the Kannada film Katha Sangama which was directed by Puttanna Kanagal.  In 1975, he played a cancer patient in the Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal directed by K. Balachander. Rajinikanth has acted in a total of over 170 films in languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and Bengali. He also starred a role in the Hollywood production, Blood Stone in 1988.

In 2000, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, and in 2016 he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan. In 2014, he was conferred with the Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year at the 45th International Film Festival of India.

West Bengal based writer Abhisek Sarkar won award at Dhaka Lit-fest: 

The ninth edition of the Dhaka Lit-fest started book lovers thronging the venue ground at the Bangla Academy. The three days of the festival, 200 speakers, performers, and thinkers take part in discussions on diverse topics. 

The special focus of this year`s lit-fest is on Indigenous Languages as the UNESCO marked 2019 as the year of Indigenous Language Protection. The literary personalities and authors from Bangladesh and abroad like William Dalrymple, Monica Ali, HM Naqvi, Prayaag Akbar, Shashi Tharoor are participating in the festival.

Shankar is the festival highlight of Bangla literature this year. West Bengal-based writer Abhishek Sarkar and Bangladeshi poet Rofiquzzaman Rony given the Gemcon Young Literature Award and Gemcon Young Poetry Award. Abhishek and Rofiquzzaman won the awards for their manuscripts, Nishiddho, and Dhoashar Tamate Rong, respectively.

PCI presented 2019 National Awards For Excellence in Journalism:

The Press Council of India (PCI) presented the National Awards For Excellence in Journalism, 2019, on 6 November 2019. Chairman of Rajasthan Patrika Pvt. Limited Ghulab Kothari won the Raja Ram Mohan Roy award. He was awarded for his contribution to journalism. 

Other awardees:

♦ The Rural Journalism category of the award was shared by Raj Chengappa, Group Editorial Director of Publishing, and the Correspondent Sanjay Saini. 

♦ The developmental Reporting category of the award was shared Shiv Swaroop Awasthi, reporter, and Anu Abrahim, sub-editor. 

♦ The financial Reporting category of the award was won by Krishn Kaushik and Sandeep for their work in the ICICI bank fraud series. 

♦ Ruby Sarkar and Anuradha Mascarenhas was awarded for gender-based reporting category of the award. 

♦ Saurabh Duggal won the Sports reporting category of the award. 

♦ The single news picture category of the award was shared by P.G. Unnikrishnan and Akhil E.S.
