Britain and Spain suspends military exports to Turkey:
Britain and Spain have joined hands with other major powers to suspend military exports to Turkey. The move comes after the incursion into northeastern Syria.
Announcement from various countries:
- The UK announced that no further export licenses would be granted to Turkey for items that might be used in military operations in Syria.
- Spain similarly announced a halt to sales of military material to Syria. Spain`s government also asked Turkey to end the military operation.
- In another announcement, Sweden also announced it had halted exports of military equipment.
- Russia has also been patrolling in areas along the line of contact between the Turkish and Syrian forces. The patrolling comes after the Syrian government troops took control of the city of Manbij.
UNGA added Venezuela to UNHRC:
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) approved the addition of Venezuela to its 47-member UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
Venezuela`s economic collapse:
Venezuela has been under a severe economic collapse. The crisis has led to a massive crisis in food, medication, and electricity. Mr. Nicolás Maduro-led administration has been withholding humanitarian aid from other nations from the public. Lack of basic needs has led millions of Venezuelans to leave the country, mainly on foot.
The Chief of the United Nations’ humanitarian affairs estimated that about one-quarter of Venezuela’s population, over seven million people needed humanitarian aid.

UNHRC is an organ that functions under the UNGA. It aims to protect and promote human rights around the world. There are 47 members in UNHRC, excluding the addition of Venezuela.
India, South Korea to boost their business and defence ties:
India and South Korea are planning to boost their business and defence ties through the Strategic Economic Dialogue and 2+2 dialogue.
Strategic Economic Dialogue:
Strategic Economic Dialogue, which has been scheduled to be held on 24 October. The dialogue is expected to serve as the umbrella for all economic cooperation. It is expected that Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog and Lee Ho-Seung, advisor on economic affairs to the South Korean president, will lead the Strategic Economic Dialogue.
The two initiatives India’s Act East policy and South Korea’s New Southern Policy, are aimed at giving fresh impetus to economic and security ties.
2+2 dialogue:
India and South Korea are to hold 2+2 dialogue between their defence and foreign ministries. The dates for the 2+2 dialogue was first initiated in a joint statement issued after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Seoul in 2015. The dates for the dialogue are currently being finalized.
